Klose hints at Bayern exit
In-form German striker Miroslav Klose hinted Sunday about leaving defending German champions Bayern Munchen with his contract set to expire next June to help him achieve his goal of playing at EURO 2012.
The 32-year-old scored twice in Germany's 3-0 win over Turkey on Friday night to put his country top of Group A in their EURO 2012 qualifying campaign with 3 wins from 3 matches.
The Poland-born ace has said he wants to continue playing through to the EURO 2012 finals which will be hosted in the Ukraine and his native Poland.
Klose has 57 goals from 104 international appearances and is second only to Gerd Mueller's incredible tally of 68 goals in 62 games between 1966 and 1974.
Remarkably, Klose has scored 5 goals for Germany in just 3 EURO 2012 qualifiers this season, but has failed to find the net in 7 games for Bayern and has hinted he is prepare to leave.
"I am open to anything: whether I get a contract extension or change clubs, I can see myself playing for another club in Bundesliga", Klose told German daily Bild on Sunday.
"The important thing for me is to remain playing internationally as playing at EURO 2012 is my goal", he added having also played for both Kaiserslautern and Werder Bremen in Bundesliga.
Bayern traditionally negotiate with players coming out of contract during January's winter break.

Bayern injury crisis worsens
Bayern Munchen's injury crisis took a turn for the worse on Friday when it was revealed that the Bavarian giants will likely be without the services of Bastian Schweinsteiger and Daniel van Buyten during this weekend's match against Hannover. The former has yet to recover from an ankle knock, while the latter has complained of back pain.
"We are still waiting on whether they can play. They may be on the bench, but we cannot start them", coach Louis van Gaal told SPOX.
In addition to Schweinsteiger and Van Buyten, Bayern will be without Ivica Olic, Mark van Bommel, Miroslav Klose, Diego Contento, David Alaba, Arjen Robben, Frank Ribery and Breno.
"I have never seen anything like this before. We will have maybe 2 or 3 outfielders and a goalkeeper on the bench", Van Gaal added.
In conclusion, the Dutch coach noted that Saturday's match with Hannover would offer the opportunity for Bayern's fringe players to make an appeal for more playing time.
"The players who have been waiting for so long will be able to play. Now they can show something."
Bayern will need their reserves to show something if they are to take points from Hannover, who are third in the Bundesliga table on 13 points. Bayern are currently 5 points behind their weekend opponents.
Benaglio to miss Bayer Leverkusen clash
VfL Wolfsburg coach Steve McClaren will have to do without the services of first choice shot stopper Diego Benaglio when the Wolfe take on Bayer Leverkusen in Saturday evening's league match.
The highly rated goalkeeper picked up a muscular problem during Switzerland's 4-1 EURO 2012 qualifying win against Wales on Tuesday and underwent further examination the next day to clarify the extent of the injury.
It's not yet known exactly how long the Swiss international will be unavailable due to the knock, but Wolfsburg have confirmed on their website that Benaglio won't be match fit in time for the match against Leverkusen.
The absence of Benaglio means that McClaren will have to make a pick between Marwin Hitz and Andre Lenz for the vacant position of shot stopper on Saturday.
"Bundesliga is far superior to Serie A"
After spending a disappointing year at Juventus, Brazilian playmaker Diego has returned to his greatest form at VfL Wolfsburg. Ahead of this weekend's Bundesliga restart, the 25-year-old praised Germany's top flight, as well as Wolfe striker Edin Dzeko.
"I think the Bundesliga is much more balanced than the Serie A", he told ran.de.
"On their day, any team can beat any other. As for the infrastructure, stadiums and fans, the Bundesliga leads the way."
"All in all, the Bundesliga is currently far superior to Serie A."
Diego also praised Edin Dzeko, the striker with whom he has forged quite a prolific partnership.
"I'm sure that in due course, he will be one of the 3, 4 or 5 best strikers in Europe."
Dzeko has been repeatedly linked with moves to Juventus and AC Milan, but Diego's opinions just might coerce him into remaining in Germany.
SV Hamburg striker Ruud van Nistelrooy is set to miss the DFB Pokal second round clash against Eintracht Frankfurt on Wednesday after picking up a thigh injury.
The Dutch star was injured in his side's draw against Bayern Munchen on Friday and joins defender Collin Benjamin on the sidelines for the match.
The 34-year-old Van Nistlerooy, in his first full season at Hamburg, is the club's top scorer so far with 4 goals in 9 games.
Klose injured again, out for 3 weeks
Bayern Munchen striker Miroslav Klose has been ruled out for 3 weeks with a torn thigh muscle only a day after recovering from a similar injury that had kept him out for 2 weeks, the club said on Thursday.
The 32-year-old striker was injured during training with the reserve team on Wednesday and will miss his the champions' next few league matches as well as their Champions League clash at Cluj next week.
"He was again diagnosed with a muscle injury in his left thigh, just as he had recovered from the injury in the same thigh", the club said in a statement.
Klose's absence is a further blow to the champions who are 11th in Bundesliga after a poor start to the season.
Bayern are already without injured wingers Arjen Robben and Franck Ribery as well as captain Mark van Bommel and defender Diego Contento among others.
Striker Ivica Olic and defender Daniel van Buyten have recovered from their injuries and are expected to play in their league match against Freiburg on Friday.

Lahm extends Bayern contract
Germany's captain Philipp Lahm has agreed a new deal with Bayern Munchen that will keep him at the Bundesliga champions until 2016, the club said Thursday.
"We are delighted that we were able to agree a long-term extension to the contract of such an important player in our team", said Bayern chairman Karl-Heinz Rummenigge.
The 26-year-old first played for Bayern in 1995 and apart from a 2-year stint at VfB Stuttgart from 2003 to 2005 has been at the German giants ever since, playing in 148 Bundesliga games and being substituted just once.
Lahm, who has been nominated for FIFA's Ballon d'Or award, is currently also wearing the captain's armband at Bayern while Dutch midfielder Mark van Bommel recovers from injury. His contract had been due to expire in 2012.
The story is the same for the national side, where he has filled in for injured regular captain Michael Ballack, 34-year-old, since before the World Cup, in which Germany finished third.
Bayern are not having the best of seasons domestically, however, languishing 7th in the table and 10 points off surprise leaders Borussia Dortmund. This Saturday they travel to bottom-placed Moenchengladbach.
Their form in Europe, however, has been exemplary, taking 4 wins from 4 in the Champions League Group E and cruising to the knockout stages with a 4-0 drubbing of Romanian side CFR Cluj on Wednesday.
Ribery insists that Schweinsteiger should extend his stay at Bayern
Bayern Munchen star Franck Ribery has come out in the media to urge team-mate Bastian Schweinsteiger to extend his stay at Allianz Arena, at least until 2015.
"I hope he can sign up until 2015, as I did", the mercurial winger told Bild.
"I have a great relationship with him, players like him are important to the club."
Schweinsteiger's current contract is set to expire in 2012 and because he has yet to put pen to paper on a new deal, speculation over a possible move abroad has rapidly increased.
Real Madrid, Manchester United and Chelsea have all been linked to the player, who has previously expressed his love for English football.

Magath hopeful of Rakitic deal
Schalke manager Felix Magath expects Ivan Rakitic to commit his future to the club in the coming weeks after promising talks with the Croatian.
The 22-year-old midfielder is regarded by Magath as a key member of his squad, even though he has found the back of the net only once so far this season.
His current contract expires next summer and Magath is keen to tie him down beyond then.
"The contract talks with Ivan are very advanced and I expect that we will be working together beyond the end of the season", said Magath at a press conference on Thursday.
"It would be good for Schalke if he were to sign a new deal."
Rakitic arrived at the Royal Blues from FC Basel in 2007 for a fee in the region of €5 million and he has played a total of 91 times, scoring 12 goals.
Although he is only 22-year-old, he has already been capped 32 times by Croatia and Magath sees a lot of potential in him.
"He is a young player and will still improve", he said.
Obasi to undergo surgery
TSG Hoffenheim's Nigeria international Chinedu Obasi is set for surgery on an injured shinbone which will keep him sidelined until next year.
"Tests have confirmed that an operation is necessary to enable him to return to train and play without feeling any pain", the Bundesliga club reported on Friday.
The 24-year-old striker joined Hoffenheim in 2007 and has gone on to score 13 goals from 51 appearances but has only managed 4 games this season.
"Bayern should sell Schweinsteiger"
Bayern Munchen coach Louis van Gaal has advised his own club to sell Manchester United target Bastian Schweinsteiger next summer.
The Germany international still has 18 months left to run on his contract and has yet to commit himself to a new deal, despite his club's attempts to convince him his future lies with them.
Many of Europe's top clubs are following developments in Munchen and will have been happy to hear Van Gaal practically put the player onto the market.
"I think that Bayern Munchen is a business and if it is true that €30 million have been offered for him, then you cannot just ignore that kind of money", he said.
Bayern are still hoping to convince Schweinsteiger to commit to a new contract, like Philipp Lahm recently did, but Van Gaal says there is no point.
"I would do it differently", he said.
"And my clubs have always listened to what I have said and my clubs have always earned a lot of money."
The 26-year-old has spent his entire career with Bayern and seems to be now pondering a move abroad next summer, a year before his contract is due to expire.
Grosskreutz extends contract
German international striker Kevin Grosskreutz boosted Bundesliga leaders Borussia Dortmund on Sunday as he extended his contract by 2 years to 2014, announced club president Hans-Joachim Watzke.
The 22-year-old - capped twice by the World Cup semi-finalists - is one of several young players blooded this season by Dortmund coach Jurgen Klopp which has seen them win 12 of their 14 matches.
They are 7 points clear of second-placed Mainz and 14 ahead of champions Bayern Munchen.
Grosskreutz, signed in 2009, has scored 4 goals this season including one on Saturday in the crushing 4-1 victory over Monchenglabach.
Klopp himself has extended his contract to 2014 while goalkeeper and captain Roman Weidenfeller should also soon extend his present one, which terminates in June, as well as young defender Marcel Schmelzer.
Stuttgart coach angry with Marica
Ciprian Marica can expect more than just a one-match suspension for his red card in Saturday's Bundesliga clash between SV Hamburg and VfB Stuttgart.
The Romanian was given his marching orders with a second yellow card after insulting the referee during Stuttgart's 4-2 defeat.
His offence carries an automatic one-match ban, but the punishment does not end there, according to Stuttgart's coach Jens Keller, who has attributed the blame for his side's defeat to his undisciplined striker.
"We had fought our way back into the game, but then we put ourselves at a disadvantage with the red card", he said.
"An experienced player should never do something like that. It will have consequences."
Stuttgart put in a spirited performance with 10 men, but ultimately ran out of steam to lose for the ninth time this season, meaning they have now been beaten more than any other side in the league.
Hamburg edged back up to 7th, remaining just 2 points behind defending champions Bayern Munchen and still in the hunt for a place in Europe next season.
Bayern Munchen star Bastian Schweinsteiger is expected to sign a 4-year contract extension that would keep him at the German champions until 2016.
Schweinsteiger, 26-year-old, has a contract with Bayern until June 2012, but German daily Bild said the Germany star is now ready to commit a further 4 years with the Bavarian giants.
Sources close to Schweinsteiger said he could sign the contract before Christmas.
Both Real Madrid and Manchester United are reported to be interested in luring Schweinsteiger away from Munchen, but Bayern have said they will do everything they can to keep their star.
In the wake of Bayern's defeat at Gelsenkirchen on Saturday night, sporting director Christian Nerlinger refused to confirm Bild's report, but said he is optimistic.
"It doesn't matter when he signs, just as long as he does and I am confident we can convince him", Nerlinger said on German television.
Bayern, who are currently 7th in Bundesliga, have already secured the long-term services of defender Philipp Lahm, midfielder Franck Ribery and forward Thomas Mueller, the top scorer at the 2010 World Cup.
Schalke boss Felix Magath is hoping his side's victory against Bayern Munchen on Saturday can recharge their season.
Magath, a former Bayern coach, masterminded his side to a 2-0 victory thanks to goals from Jurado and Benedikt Howedes - a result which effectively ends Bayern's title hopes.
If table-toppers Borussia Dortmund defeat FC Nurnberg on Sunday, they will lead Bayern by a whopping 17 points after 15 games.
Magath's side were able to withstand the constant first-half pressure from the reigning champions, with the result helping his side build a 4-point gap on the relegation zone.
"Bayern played superbly in the first half", Magath told Sky.
"We also played well, however we made it difficult for ourselves at the beginning. We did fight our way back into the game."
"If we continue to play like this, there will be no more of this crisis-talk. We had a miserable start. The team has to find itself, therefore now and then we will see such games."

Bayern Munchen star Bastian Schweinsteiger has ended speculation over his future by signing a new deal with the German giants.
Schweinsteiger's future has been the subject of speculation with a number of Europe's top clubs, including Real Madrid and Manchester United, credited with an interest in acquiring his services.
The German international was in the final 18 months of his contract, but he has now penned a new deal to keep him at the Allianz Arena until 2016.
Schweinsteiger announced on a microphone after the 3-0 defeat of St Pauli to the home fans at Allianz Arena that he had pledged his long-term future to the German giants.
"I have extended my contract and will stay at FC Bayern until 2016", said Schweinsteiger.
Raul ensured Schalke made a winning end to 2010 with his second hat-trick of the season in Saturday afternoon's win over FC Koln.
The win lifted the Royal Blue to within 5 points of the top 5, which is now a more realistic objective for the season.
"We can justifiably aim for European football", said manager Felix Magath.
"Fifth position is now our next objective."
Magath was full of praise for his match-winner, who he says is not just excelling in front of goal.
"He is our most important player", he said.
"He keeps running and running - almost too much - but he is in good condition and always there where he is needed."
After a slow start to the season, the Spaniard has now scored 9 league goals and says he has no regrets whatsoever about making the move from Real Madrid.
"I am delighted that my move from Real to Schalke has gone so smoothly and that I am part of a team which is working so well", he said.
"Furthermore, I have a very good coach here who has faith in me."
"Today was not only a good day for me but for the whole team. We turned the self-confidence that we have gained from our recent games into a win today and that was immensely important."
Schalke still have one more challenge before Christmas, though, as they head to second division leaders Augsburg for a tricky DFB Pokal tie in midweek.
Butt to retire if Neuer arrives
Bayern Munchen goalkeeper Hans-Jorg Butt has announced he will retire at the end of the season should his club sign Manuel Neuer from Schalke 04.
The 36-year-old's contract expires at the end of June and he has made it clear that he will not sign a new deal if he is only going to be second choice.
"If Manuel comes, then he will play, and then I will retire at the highest level and look forward to doing something new and interesting", he told Bild.
Bayern are still believed to be keen on signing the Germany number 1 who has a contract until 2012 with Schalke.
Irrespective of whether the Neuer deal goes through, Butt acknowledges that at 36-year-old his plans for retirement are already quite advanced.
"I have a great career up to now", he added.
"I don't feel any pressure that somebody will take my place sooner or later."
"I have always been interested in doing other things away from the football field."
"I am currently doing a distance-training course in business studies and economics and I am close to graduating with a BA."
"I think that some people are not fully prepared for retirement and they are badly prepared for what comes afterwards."

Rangnick departs Hoffenheim
Ralf Rangnick has walked out on TSG Hoffenheim after midfielder Luis Gustavo was sold without the coach's consent.
Rangnick, 52-year-old, has been with the club since 2006, steering them from the third tier of German football to the Bundesliga.
But the former Schalke 04 coach has now quit the Rhein-Neckar-Arena following the unsanctioned sale of Brazilian midfielder Gustavo to Bayern Munchen.
Rangnick has repeatedly insisted that Gustavo was not for sale, but it appears club owner Dietmar Hopp and general manager Ernst Tanner have approved the transfer behind the manager's back.
Assistant manager Marco Pezzaiuoli will assume control of the first team until the end of the season.
"He already knows the team and that is a huge advantage", Hopp told the Mannheimer Morgen newspaper.
"I am confident that we will not slide into danger."
Klose destined for Bayern exit
Out-of-favour Bayern Munchen striker Miroslav Klose is strongly considering a move away from the Bundesliga champions.
Klose, 32-year-old, has started just 6 games and failed to find the net this season, despite starring for Germany in their run to the semi-finals of the 2010 World Cup.
The Polish-born frontman's contract expires at the end of the season and he is yet to be offered a new deal.
While he remains open to extending his stay at Allianz Arena, the prospect of a transfer is increasingly likely.
"My first point of contact is Bayern", Klose told Kicker.
"But I am open to anything and could seriously imagine a move within the Bundesliga or overseas."
Klose said he wanted "to continue to play for a good club because I want to go to the European Championship in 2012".
Arjen Robben celebrated his return to action as Bayern Munchen defeated Qatar side Al Wakrah in a friendly match.
New arrival Luiz Gustavo also played his first game for the Bavarians following his arrival from TSG Hoffenheim as goals from Thomas Muller, Bastian Schweinsteiger, Daniel van Buyten and Hamit Altintop earned Louis van Gaal's side a comfortable win.
Thomas Kraft played in goal, hinting that a rumoured switch between the posts for the second half of the season with Hans-Jorg Butt dropping to the bench could well be true.
