Bergwijn commits to PSV

PSV Eindhoven star Steven Bergwijn has signed a new 5-year contract as the Eredivisie giants appear to have warded off interest from Bayern Munchen.

The 21-year-old winger has been linked with some of Europe's biggest clubs after a breakout 2018-2019 campaign, which saw him score 14 goals and add 12 assists for the Dutch runners-up.

However, despite reports of interest from FC Sevilla and the German champions, Bergwijn has elected to put pen-to-paper on a new deal that takes him through June 2023.

Bergwijn has already captured 3 Eredivisie crowns with PSV, though they lost their title to rivals Ajax last season.

Werner signs Leipzig extension

Timo Werner has dispelled speculation over his future with RasenBallsport Leipzig by signing a new deal with the Bundesliga club.

Werner, 23-year-old, had been the subject of strong reports linking him with a move away from his current side.

Bayern Munchen were most closely linked with the forward, although the reigning German champions did not make a formal bid for his services.

But having initially held off on extending his deal, Werner has now put pen-to-paper on a fresh contract that confirms him as a Leipzig player for the 2019-2020 at least.

Werner joined Leipzig from VfB Stuttgart in the summer of 2016, arriving at the club ahead of their first-ever season in the Bundesliga.

That first term saw the young forward hit 21 goals in 31 league games to help Leipzig grab a brilliant second place finish behind Bayern and qualify for the Champions League, and he has maintained that touch in front of the net throughout his stay, scoring a total of 62 in 116 appearances so far.

Lewandowski signs Bayern extension

Robert Lewandowski has extended his contract at Bayern Munchen by 2 years, taking his time at the Bundesliga champions through to 2023.

The 31-year-old Poland international is now starting his 6th season in Bavaria, and has plundered 5 goals in 2 league games already.

He has hinted at leaving the club over the past 18 months having been linked to Real Madrid, but has now committed himself to Niko Kovac's side.

Since joining from Borussia Dortmund in 2014, Lewandowski has underlined his status as one of the world's deadliest forwards and one of Bayern's all-time greats.

He has scored more than 40 goals in all competitions in each of the last 4 seasons, and sits behind only Gerd Muller and Rummenigge himself in the club's top scorers list.

While Bayern have struggled to make an impression in the Champions League in recent years, they have won the Bundesliga in each of Lewandowski's 5 seasons to date and will be looking to repeat the feat by holding off the challenge of Dortmund this year.

After starting the season with a brace in the draw against Hertha Berlin, Lewandowski bagged a hat-trick against Schalke over the weekend to help Bayern to their first league win of the season.

A repeat performance would see him past the 200-goal mark for the club, as he currently sits on 197.

Alaba suffers thigh tear

David Alaba is set to miss the start of Bayern Munchen's Champions League campaign after tearing a muscle in his left thigh.

The 27-year-old suffered the injury in the warm-up before Bayern's 1-1 draw at Leipzig on Saturday.

Jerome Boateng replaced him in the starting XI, with Lucas Hernandez moving to the left side of defence.

Bayern did not confirm a timeline for Alaba's return but it is believed he will miss several weeks of action, meaning head coach Niko Kovac will now have to weigh up his options for Wednesday's Champions League home clash against Red Star Belgrade.

The Austrian started each of Bayern's opening 3 Bundesliga fixtures and scored in the 6-1 thrashing of Mainz last month.

The German champions remain 2 points behind leaders Leipzig, while Borussia Dortmund sit second.

World Cup winner Schweinsteiger announces retirement

Bastian Schweinsteiger has announced his retirement from professional football, with the former Bayern Munchen, Manchester United and Chicago Fire star hanging up his boots at the age of 35.

The World Cup winner has spent the last 3 years turning out in MLS after taking in a brief spell with the Red Devils at Old Trafford prior to his move to Chicago.

He was considered to be quite a coup when United secured his signature, but a spell in England did not play out as planned.

Schweinsteiger is, however, assured of a standing as a club legend at Bayern Munchen.

Having first linked up with the German giants as a teenager in 2004, he went on to take in 500 competitive appearances, winning 8 Bundesliga titles, 7 German Cup titles and the Champions League along the way, while also collecting 121 caps for his country.

Schweinsteiger's finest hour with Germany came in 2014, when Joachim Low's side savoured World Cup glory in Brazil.

There will now be plenty of time for a combative figure to look back on many happy memories, with the decision taken to take walk away at the end of the current campaign in America.

Schweinsteiger will be remembered as one of the most memorable figures of his era, with his game all about winning the ball and giving no less than 100% every time he took to the pitch.

Those qualities should serve him well in whatever the future holds, with the call made to open a new chapter away from the playing field.

Neymar out for 4 weeks

Paris Saint-Germain and Brazil forward Neymar will be out for 4 weeks with a thigh injury.

Neymar limped off 12 minutes into Brazil's 1-1 friendly draw against Nigeria in Singapore on Sunday.

The French champions confirmed the extent of Neymar's injury on Monday after he had undergone scans and said he would be re-evaluated in 8 days' time.

Neymar will miss 6 matches for PSG, according to the initial estimation, including home and away fixtures against FC Brugge in the Champions League as well as the visit of rivals Olympique Marseille in the league.

It means the world's most expensive player will be back in time to feature in PSG's Champions League group stages trip to Real Madrid.

They won 3-0 at home without the Brazilian, who was banned.

PSG also confirmed forward Kylian Mbappe is continuing "positively" with his rehab. The France international has not featured since 25 August when he suffered a thigh problem.

Sancho dropped and fined by Dortmund

Jadon Sancho has been dropped and fined by Borussia Dortmund ahead of their clash with top-of-the-table Borussia Monchengladbach.

Sky Sports News understands Sancho has been left out of the squad and fined by coach Lucien Favre after reportedly returning back late from international duty with England.

The former Manchester City winger featured as a substitute in England's 6-0 thrashing of Bulgaria in Monday's EURO 2020 qualifier which was overshadowed by racist abuse towards England players.

It is not the first time Sancho has run into trouble with Dortmund. He was dropped to the U23s two seasons ago after repeatedly arriving late for training.

Guerreiro signs new deal with Dortmund

Borussia Dortmund defender Raphael Guerreiro has agreed a contract extension that will keep him at Westfalenstadion until 2023.

The Portugal international joined BVB in 2016 from Lorient, switching for a fee of €12 million.

During the reign of Thomas Tuchel in North Rhine-Westphalia, the 25-year-old was primarily used as a midfielder, though he has since become the club's first-choice left-back following the arrival of Lucien Favre as head coach last term.

In his 3 campaigns with ​Dortmund, Guerreiro has made a total of 80 appearances in all competitions, helping the side win the DFB Pokal in his first season wearing yellow and black.

Sule set for surgery after tearing ACL

Bayern Munchen have confirmed that defender Niklas Sule tore the anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee during their Bundesliga draw against Augsburg.

Germany centre-back Sule will undergo surgery on Sunday after scans confirmed head coach Niko Kovac's fears of a serious injury.

Sule, 24-year-old, went down clutching his left leg after going into a challenge with Florian Niederlechner in the early stages of the 2-2 draw in Bavaria.

The defender walked from the pitch but Kovac admitted to having "a very bad feeling" and the most important pillar of his back 4 now faces several months on the sidelines.

Sule was making his eighth start of the champions' uneven Bundesliga campaign, having become an entrenched member of the starting XI last season as the influence of Jerome Boateng and Mats Hummels - now at Borussia Dortmund - started to wane.

Stam quits as Feyenoord coach

Jaap Stam has resigned as Feyenoord coach, a day after his team were thrashed 4-0 by rivals Ajax.

The Dutch side have struggled under the former Manchester United defender and sit 12th in the table, already 15 points behind leaders Ajax, after winning just 3 of their 11 Eredivisie matches.

Stam, who previously managed Reading in the Championship, replaced Giovanni van Bronckhorst in the summer.

Verratti signs PSG extension

Marco Verratti has signed a contract extension with Paris Saint-Germain that will keep him tied to the club until 2024.

The midfielder's previous deal was set to expire in 2021, but the French giants have moved swiftly to tie down their most successful player of all time.

The Italy international joined PSG from Pescara in 2012 and has made 290 appearances for the club, contributing 48 assists to go with his 9 goals while winning 22 trophies along the way.

Verratti said in March this year that he would be open to finishing his career in the French capital, despite reports linking him to Juventus and Manchester United.

And the midfielder, who turns 27-year-old next Tuesday, is happy to have finally committed his long-term future to the Parisian side.

Bayern sack manager Kovac

Niko Kovac has been sacked as manager of Bayern Munchen, the Bundesliga champions have confirmed.

The 48-year-old Croatian took over at the club from Jupp Heynckes in the summer of 2018 and won a league and cup double in his first season, but Bayern have struggled to hit their best form this campaign.

They were humiliated 5-1 by Kovac's previous side, Eintracht Frankfurt, on Saturday, a result which proved the final straw for the club's hierarchy.

It now remains to be seen who will replace Kovac. While assistant manager Hansi Flick will take charge for the upcoming games with Olympiacos and Borussia Dortmund, the international break which follows will give the club time to consider a long-term appointment.

Abraham banned for 7 weeks

David Abraham has been banned for all of Eintracht Frankfurt's remaining Bundesliga games this year after knocking over an opposition coach.

The club captain was sent off after pushing SC Freiburg coach Christian Streich with his shoulder while trying to gather a ball which had gone out of play during Sunday's league match.

The German soccer federation has banned the defender until 29 December, ruling him out of 6 upcoming league games before Frankfurt play Mainz on 2 January.

Abraham has also been fined €25,000.

Vincenzo Grifo has been banned for 3 matches after VAR (video assistant referee) spotted him retaliating against Abraham in the melee.

Klinsmann appointed Hertha Berlin manager

Jurgen Klinsmann has been appointed as the new head coach of Bundesliga side Hertha Berlin.

The 55-year-old has signed a deal until the end of the season to replace Ante Covic, who was sacked by the club on Wednesday morning after being appointed in the summer.

Covic had been with Hertha since he signed as a player in 2003, and took a series of coaching roles at the club after retiring from professional football in 2010.

Klinsmann was named on Hertha's supervisory board earlier this month but has now been assigned coaching duties after the club lost their last 4 Bundesliga games, slumping to 15th place in the Bundesliga with 11 points.

The German last managed the USA national team from 2011 to 2016, guiding them to the round of 16 in the 2014 World Cup where they lost to Belgium in extra-time.

He returns to the dugout in his native country after leading the national team to the semi-finals in their 2006 World Cup campaign as hosts and a 9-month stint in charge of Bayern Munchen in 2009.

Klinsmann will take charge of his first Bundesliga game as Hertha coach when they host Dortmund on Saturday.

Sommer signs new Gladbach deal

Yann Sommer has put pen-to-paper on a contract extension with Borussia Monchengladbach, the club have announced.

Sommer's contract was due to run out in 2021, but he has now signed a new deal until 2023.

"We are delighted to be able to extend Yann Sommer's contract. For me, he is one of the top goalkeepers in Europe, and with us he is one of the leading players in the team", said Monchengladbach director of sport Max Eberl, as quoted by the club.

The 30-year-old joined Gladbach from FC Basel in 2014.

The matches of the second round will take place between 17 and 19 December 2019.

Kramer signs Gladbach contract extension

Christoph Kramer has committed himself to Borussia Monchengladbach by signing a new contract.

The defensive midfielder has put pen-to-paper on a deal until 2023, the club have announced.

"He's extremely important to us as a footballer as well as an opinionated guy in the dressing room, and we are delighted that we have been able to extend his contract", said Gladbach sporting director Max Eberl.

"Die Fohlen" paid €15 million to sign Kramer for Bayer Leverkusen in 2015. Since then, he has gone on to play 171 matches, scoring 10 goals and making 10 assists.
