Bayern appoint Kompany
Bayern Munchen have appointed Vincent Kompany as their new head coach on a 3-year deal.
The Belgian, 38-year-old, succeeds Thomas Tuchel and leaves Burnley for the Bundesliga side after the two clubs agreed a compensation fee, believed to be £10,2 million.
Kompany won the Championship with Burnley in 2022-2023, but the Clarets suffered relegation from the Premier League this season after finishing 19th.
Kompany, who retired from playing in 2020, joined Burnley from Anderlecht in 2022 and signed a 5-year contract extension last year.
However, he refused to answer questions about his future after the Clarets' home defeat by Nottingham Forest on the final day of the season.
Burnley said they were initially confident of keeping Kompany at Turf Moor but "the changing dynamics of the situation" made it impossible.
Tuchel left Bayern this month as the club finished third in the Bundesliga - their worst league position since 2010-2011.
Italy veteran Bonucci announces retirement
Former Italy, Juventus and AC Milan defender Leonardo Bonucci has announced his retirement with a touching video looking back over his career.
The centre-back turned 37 earlier this month and his contract with Fenerbahce is coming to an end this summer.
He had hoped to play for Italy at EURO 2024, but between Union Berlin and Fenerbahce failed to get enough playing time to warrant a call-up.
In his career, the defender won the European Championship with Italy, 9 Serie A titles at Inter Milano and Juventus, 5 Coppa Italia trophies and 5 editions of the Supercoppa Italiana.
Besiktas appoint Van Bronckhorst
Besiktas have named Giovanni van Bronckhorst as their manager to replace Fernando Santos who was sacked in April, the Turkish club said on Wednesday.
The Dutchman has signed a 2-year contract, with the option of another year. The club parted ways with 4 managers last season, including Santos who was replaced by interim manager Serdar Topraktepe, and they went on to win the Turkish Cup.
Van Bronckhorst, a former Holland international, began his managerial career at Feyenoord in 2015, the club where he began and ended his playing career. He led them to the KNVB Cup in his first season and to the Eredivisie league title in his second.
After 3 seasons with the Dutch club, Van Bronckhorst spent one season with Chinese Super League side Guangzhou before replacing Steven Gerrard as Glasgow Rangers manager in November 2021, having previously played for the Scottish club.
He took Rangers to the Final of the Europa League and won the Scottish Cup, as well as guiding them to Champions League qualification for the first time in 12 years, but he was sacked a year after his arrival.
Mourinho unveiled as new Fenerbahce manager
Jose Mourinho was unveiled as the new manager of Fenerbahce in front of thousands of enthusiastic fans on Sunday.
Mourinho, 61-year-old, has been out of a job since he was sacked by AS Roma in January.
The Turkish club held a signing ceremony for Mourinho in Sukru Saracoglu Stadium as thousands of supporters cheered the Portuguese coach's name and sang songs.
Mourinho will replace Ismail Kartal, who Fenerbahce parted ways with on Friday after only one loss in the league last season.
The team were involved in a tight title race with Galatasaray but 6 draws proved costly as their Istanbul rivals won the league by 3 points.
Mourinho, who has won trophies with clubs such as FC Porto, Chelsea, Inter Milano, Real Madrid and Manchester United, will be tasked with helping Fenerbahce win their first league title since the 2013-2014 season.
Sesko signs new Leipzig contract
Slovenia striker Benjamin Sesko has signed a new deal at RasenBallsport Leipzig following interest from a number of Premier League clubs.
The 21-year-old had been linked with a move to Arsenal this summer, with Chelsea and Manchester United also believed to have identified him as a target.
The Slovakian joined Leipzig from FC Salzburg in 2023, signing a 5-year contract that contained a £55 million release clause.
Sesko, who netted 14 goals in 31 games during his debut campaign in Germany, has committed his future to the club until 2029.
