Everton sack Benitez
Everton have sacked manager Rafael Benitez after just 6-and-a-half months in charge following Saturday's 2-1 defeat at Norwich City.
The Toffees have won just once in the Premier League since September and are 15th in the table, 6 points above the relegation zone.
Former Liverpool manager Benitez was appointed Everton manager last summer but the Spaniard has failed to win over the Goodison Park faithful.
Everton fans displayed a banner calling for his exit during their team's loss to Norwich at Carrow Road. The same banner was also unfurled at their 3-2 FA Cup third round win at Hull City.
Everton have lost 9 of their past 13 league games, including a 4-1 home defeat by Merseyside rivals Liverpool and a 5-2 home defeat against relegation strugglers Watford.

Bielsa sacked by Leeds
Marcelo Bielsa has been sacked by Leeds on the back of a 4-0 hammering by Tottenham Hotspur at Elland Road on Saturday, with Jesse Marsch leading the race to replace him.
Bielsa joined Leeds in 2018 and led them back to the Premier League after a 16-year absence 2 years later, as well as a ninth place finish in the top flight in 2020-2021, but he leaves with the club only 2 points above the relegation zone and on a run of 5 defeats from 6 games.
Leeds have conceded 21 goals in that time and slumped to a 4-0 defeat at home to Tottenham on Saturday after being thrashed 6-0 in midweek away at Liverpool, leaving them with a goal difference of -30 and the leakiest defence in the Premier League, having shipped 60 goals in 26 games, 5 more than bottom side Norwich City.
Bielsa's contract was already due to expire at the end of the season and after the Liverpool defeat he admitted he was concerned the Whites could be relegated back to the Championship.
Leeds say plans for a permanent tribute to Bielsa at Elland Road are under way, while they hope to make an announcement regarding the Argentine's successor as soon as Monday.

Dias ruled out for up to 6 weeks
Manchester City are looking to avoid dropping points for the second time in three Premier League outings as they aim to the league double over rivals Manchester United at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday afternoon.
The league leaders claimed a 2-0 win at Old Trafford in November, though the Reds have since slipped 19 points behind the Sky Blues in the table and find themselves engulfed in a battle to secure Champions League qualification.
Pep Guardiola's side followed up their narrow win over Everton at Goodison Park last week by setting up an FA Cup quarter-finals tie away to Southampton after overcoming Championship side Peterborough United in mid-week.
Centre-back pair Ruben Dias and Nathan Ake were both forced off at half-time due to "medical reasons" and Guardiola has revealed ahead of Sunday afternoon's derby tie with Manchester United that the former is set for a prolonged spell on the sidelines.
Speaking in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Guardiola revealed that Dias suffered a hamstring injury and will be unavailable for 4 to 6 weeks, ruling the Portugal international out of a series of crucial upcoming fixtures.
Kyle Walker will be available for selection after missing the FA Cup fifth round win due to suspension after picking up bookings against both Swindon Town and Fulham.

Defoe announces retirement from football
Jermain Defoe has announced his retirement from professional football at the age of 39.
Former West Ham and Tottenham Hotspur striker Defoe had been playing for Sunderland, after returning to the club where he spent 2-and-a-half seasons between 2015 and 2017, in January. His contract there was due to run until the end of the season.
Prior to rejoining Sunderland, Defoe was at Glasgow Rangers where he scored 32 goals in 74 matches, helping them win the Scottish Premiership title last season.
Beckton-born Defoe played youth football for renowned east London club Senrab before deciding to sign professional forms with West Ham in 1999, aged 16. He made his first-team debut a year later.
Defoe scored 19 goals in 31 appearances during a loan spell at Bournemouth, including netting in a record 10 consecutive league games.
The striker finished the 2001-2002 season as West Ham's top goalscorer, and scored a total of 41 goals in 105 games for the club, but he was unable to save the Hammers from relegation the following season, despite another double-digit goal return.
Defoe handed in a written transfer request less than 24 hours after West Ham's relegation, but ended up staying at the club before making a switch to Tottenham.
He made his England debut a few months after joining Spurs, winning the first of a total of 57 caps during his career.
Defoe spent 3-and-a-half seasons with Tottenham before joining Portsmouth in January 2008, scoring 17 goals in 36 games for Pompey, but moved back to Spurs a year later, signing for his former manager at West Ham, Harry Redknapp.
Across both spells at Tottenham, Defoe racked up 363 appearances, scoring 143 goals, before moving abroad to join FC Toronto early in 2014.
But his stay at the MLS club lasted only 11 months, with Defoe returning to England to join Sunderland. He spent 2-and-a-half seasons on Wearside, and moved to Bournemouth in 2017 before an initial loan move to Rangers in 2019 was made permanent.
Defoe has revealed his decision to call time on his playing career arrived after a prolonged conversation with his mum last weekend.
