Liverpool appeal against Mane ban rejected by FA
The Football Association has upheld Sadio Mane's 3-match suspension for his red card challenge on Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson after Liverpool's claim of excessive punishment was rejected.
Mane was sent off during the 37th minute of Liverpool's 5-0 defeat at the Etihad Stadium on Saturday when he caught the Brazilian in the face with a high boot.
The Senegal international is eligible for the Reds' Champions League opener against FC Sevilla but will miss the home game with Burnley this weekend and consecutive trips to Leicester City in the Carabao Cup and Premier League.
Ederson left the field on a stretcher following the challenge but was named in City's squad for the Champions League match at Feyenoord on Wednesday having returned to training in protective headwear to cover his facial wounds.
Heaton set for 4-month absence
Burnley goalkeeper Tom Heaton is expected to be out for 4 months following shoulder surgery.
The 31-year-old suffered a dislocated shoulder after falling awkwardly during the 1-0 victory over Crystal Palace last weekend and had an operation on Wednesday.
He is now poised to be on the sidelines until January, in news that comes as a blow not only to Clarets manager Sean Dyche, who will now be without one of his most important players, but also England coach Gareth Southgate as he continues his preparations for the 2018 World Cup.
Dyche did not put a timescale for Heaton's return, but reports suggest he will be out for the rest of 2017.
Heaton was called up to the England squad in August for World Cup qualifiers against Slovakia and Malta, rivalling Joe Hart for the number 1 jersey.
But his spell out of action will likely serve as a dent to his hopes of making the travelling party for the World Cup, with Hart, Jordan Pickford and the recently returning Jack Butland all jockeying for position in Southgate's squad.
Stoke reward Diouf with new contract
Mame Biram Diouf has signed a new contract at Stoke City that will keep him at the club until 2020.
The former Manchester United forward's deal was due to expire at the end of the season and there had been some doubt over his long-term future with Mark Hughes' side.
But Diouf, who has played 3 of Stoke's 4 Premier League matches in 2017-2018 and set up Eric Maxim Choupo-Moting's first goal in the 2-2 draw against his old club last weekend, has agreed to extend his stay.
Diouf has made 99 appearances in all competitions for the club since signing from Hannover in 2014.

Prodl pens new Watford contract
Sebastian Prodl has signed a new 4-year deal with Watford, the Premier League side have announced.
The 30-year-old defender has accumulated 61 appearances for Watford since his arrival at Vicarage Road from Werder Bremen in 2015.
Currently sidelined with a hamstring strain, the Austria international - who picked up the club's Player of the Season award last term - has missed Watford's last 2 fixtures, though could be fit to face Swansea City on Saturday as the Hornets look to bounce back from their 6-0 defeat to Manchester City last time out.
Prior to their encounter with Pep Guardiola's rampant side, Marco Silva's men had made a strong start to life under the former Hull City coach, going unbeaten in their opening 4 league fixtures.

He joined West Bromwich at the start of the season and has quickly established himself as a vital part of Tony Pulis' team, playing 4 of their 5 league fixtures ahead of the Arsenal game.

Hemed given 3-game ban
Brighton & Hove Albion striker Tomer Hemed will serve a 3-match ban after the Football Association upheld a charge of violent conduct.
The Israel international scored the decisive goal in Brighton's 1-0 win over Newcastle on Sunday, but appeared to stamp on opposition defender DeAndre Yedlin during the closing stages of the contest.
Hemed denied the FA charge for the incident, which was missed by the match officials but caught on video, although his appeal was rejected following a review by an independent regulatory commission.
The 30-year-old will miss Brighton's Premier League games against Arsenal, Everton and West Ham.

Giroud reaches 100 Arsenal goals
Olivier Giroud has reached 100 Arsenal goals, doing so at a faster rate than club icon Dennis Bergkamp and former star Robin van Persie.
The Arsenal striker scored in the 49th minute of Thursday's Europa League clash against BATE Borisov to reach his century for the club.
Giroud becomes the 19th Gunners player to reach 100 goals and is their 12th fastest to reach the mark after netting in his 237th appearance.
The 30-year-old reached his milestone faster than Van Persie (238 games) and Bergkamp (296), but slower than Arsenal greats like Ian Wright (143) and Thierry Henry (181).
Giroud signed for Arsenal from Montpellier in 2012, with the move worth around £9,5 million, going on to win the FA Cup 3 times.
Giroud has scored at least 15 goals in all 5 of his previous Arsenal seasons, with this goal taking him to 2 for the current campaign.
One of his 100 goals, a scorpion kick against Crystal Palace in January, has been nominated for the 2017 Puskas award.

City confirm Aguero injured in car accident
Manchester City have confirmed Sergio Aguero was injured in a car accident in Amsterdam on Thursday.
The striker will be assessed by club doctors on Friday as Pep Guardiola's side prepare to face Premier League champions Chelsea at the weekend.
Initial reports suggest Aguero may have suffered broken ribs, which could rule him out for around 2 months.
However, City are yet to comment on the nature of the Argentina international's injuries.
If the 29-year-old should be ruled out for any significant length of time, it would represent a major blow to City's domestic and Champions League ambitions.
Aguero has started the season in fine form, with 6 league goals in as many games helping City to the top of the table.

Mesut Ozil is unavailable and Laurent Koscielny is in doubt for Arsenal's Premier League match at home to Brighton & Hove Albion on Sunday.
Germany international Ozil missed the 4-2 Europa League victory at BATE Borisov on Thursday, having played only 7 minutes of Monday's 2-0 league win over West Bromwich as a late substitute.

Former Liverpool striker Lambert retires
Former Liverpool and England striker Rickie Lambert has retired from football, saying his career has surpassed his "wildest dreams".
The 35-year-old had been without a club since leaving Championship side Cardiff City in July.
Lambert won 11 caps for England and scored 3 times, playing once at the World Cup in 2014.
At club level, he achieved most success with Southampton between 2009 and 2014, helping the club to 2 promotions before impressing in the Premier League.
Lambert then joined boyhood heroes Liverpool, but struggled to break into the starting XI for a lone season before rounding off his career with West Bromwich Albion and Cardiff.
Lascelles lands new 6-year deal
Newcastle captain Jamaal Lascelles has been rewarded for a fine start to the Premier League season with a new 6-year contract.
Lascelles, 23-year-old, signed a new deal on Friday that will keep him at St. James' Park until 2023, having scored 2 winning goals already in 2017-2018, against Swansea City and Stoke City.
The defender joined from Nottingham Forest in 2014 and spent an additional year on loan with his former side, meaning this is his third campaign with Newcastle's squad.
Rafael Benitez made him captain at the start of last season, in which Newcastle won promotion from the Championship.
Lascelles has appeared in all 7 of Newcastle's Premier League games this season, with Benitez's men due to play away to Southampton after the international break.

Liverpool have ruled Sadio Mane out for up to 6 weeks with a hamstring injury, a significant blow ahead of Saturday's clash against Manchester United.

It will be Mane's second lengthy spell out of the season, after picking up a 3-match ban for a dangerous challenge on Manchester City goalkeeper Ederson in September.

Chambers agrees Arsenal extension
Calum Chambers has agreed a 2-year contract extension to keep him at Arsenal until 2021, the club have confirmed.
The versatile defender joined Arsenal from Southampton in 2014 for £16 million after breaking through as a teenager and impressing under Mauricio Pochettino.
Initially he made a good start to life at the Emirates Stadium, playing 23 times in his first Premier League campaign at the club - one more appearance than he managed at Southampton the previous year.
However, the emergence of Hector Bellerin coupled with injuries and poor form meant Chambers became a bit-part figure at the club and he was sent out on loan to Middlesbrough last season, where he managed 24 league appearances in a campaign that ended in relegation to the Championship.
Still only 22, Chambers has struggled with groin and thigh injuries this term, preventing him from making a single Premier League appearance for the Gunners - his only competitive outing coming in the EFL Cup win over Doncaster Rovers.
However, the England international will likely be boosted by this vote of confidence, which could see him remain at Arsenal for almost another 4 years.

Tottenham Hotspur's Harry Kane has earned the Premier League's Player of the Month award after a stunning scoring streak in September.

Newcastle United have officially been put up for sale by owner Mike Ashley.
The Premier League club released a statement on Monday confirming the decision on the grounds they need "a clear direction and a path to a bright and successful future".
It is believed Ashley is eager to complete a sale before the New Year.
