Willems & Dummett out for the season

Jetro Willems and Paul Dummett will miss the rest of the season through injury, Newcastle manager Steve Bruce confirmed on Monday.

Willems ruptured his anterior cruciate ligament in Saturday's 1-0 victory against Chelsea, while Dummett suffered a hamstring injury in the FA Cup third round replay win over Rochdale in midweek.

With Willems on a season-long loan from Eintracht Frankfurt, it means the 25-year-old has potentially played his last game for the Magpies, though Bruce says Newcastle have not yet ruled out offering the Dutchman a permanent deal.

Bruce, who is hopeful of clinching a loan deal for Inter Milano winger Valentino Lazaro, admitted his January transfer plans may have to change because of the misfortune of the two left-sided defenders.

Villa sign Samatta

Aston Villa have completed the signing of striker Mbwana Samatta from Genk on a 4-and-a-half-year contract.

The 27-year-old's move is subject to a work permit and international clearance being granted.

Villa made signing Samatta, who has scored 43 goals in 98 league appearances for Genk, a priority following the injury to striker Wesley Moraes who has been ruled out for the rest of the season.

Sky Sports News first reported that Villa wanted to sign the 27-year-old Tanzania international in July of last summer.

Fernandinho signs City extension

Manchester City midfielder Fernandinho has signed a one-year contract extension with the Premier League club.

Fernandinho has established himself as a key player for City since joining in 2013, winning 3 Premier League titles and 4 EFL Cups.

The extension will see the 34-year-old Brazilian remain at the club until the summer of 2021, by which point he will have completed his eighth season at the Etihad Stadium.

Fernandinho joined City from Shakhtar Donetsk, where he had spent 8 years after departing Athletico Paranaense.

Murray signs new one-year Brighton extension

Striker Glenn Murray has signed a new one-year contract extension with Brighton until June 2021.

Murray, who is in his second spell with the club, scored the equaliser in Brighton's 3-3 draw with West Ham at the weekend.

Murray first joined Brighton & Hove Albion in 2008, helping the club to the League 1 title in 2011, before departing that summer.

The 36-year-old returned to the club in 2016, after spells at Crystal Palace, Reading and Bournemouth, and scored 23 goals in his first season back as the club won promotion to the Premier League.

The striker scored 14 goals in Albion's first-ever Premier League season, and his 15 goals last season took him past 100 goals for Brighton to make him the club's post-war record goalscorer.

Klopp makes history with Manager of the Month award

Jurgen Klopp has broken the record for the most Barclays Manager of the Month awards in a single season.

Klopp has been voted the winner of the January 2020 prize and has now won the award an unprecedented 5 times this term, surpassing Pep Guardiola's 4 from 2017-2018.

The German triumphed thanks to yet another flawless month as Liverpool extended their win streak to 15 matches.

Victories over Tottenham Hotspur and Manchester United were among their 5 in January as Klopp's men increased their lead at the top of the table to 19 points, before extending it to 22 in matchweek 25.

Overall it is the eighth Barclays monthly award won by the 52-year-old, moving him level with Martin O'Neill and Harry Redknapp.

Only Sir Alex Ferguson, Arsene Wenger and David Moyes have picked up more in the competition's history.

Aguero wins record 7th Player of the Month



Sergio Aguero has won the EA SPORTS Player of the Month award for a record 7th time.

Aguero has been voted the winner of the January 2020 prize after a historic month with Manchester City.

The Argentinian scored 6 times and got an assist in just 3 appearances as he became the highest-scoring overseas player in Premier League history.

His hat-trick in a 6-1 win at Aston Villa took him past Thierry Henry's 175 goals, and with his 12th treble in the competition he surpassed Alan Shearer's record of 11.

After that he scored all 3 of City's goals in a 2-2 draw with Crystal Palace and a 1-0 victory at Sheffield United.

A 7th EA SPORTS Player of the Month moves him ahead of Steven Gerrard and Harry Kane, who have both won it on 6 occasions.

Son sidelined for a number of weeks with broken arm

Tottenham Hotspur have been dealt a fresh injury blow, with the club revealing that Heung-Min Son is to be sidelined for a number of weeks after fracturing his arm.

The South Korea international has added to the fitness woes being endured by Jose Mourinho in the final third of the field.

Spurs have already seen talismanic frontman Harry Kane forced under the knife.

Initial reports suggested that the England captain could return from hamstring surgery in April.

It has, however, also been claimed that Kane may be forced to sit out the remainder of the 2019-2020 campaign.

Son had been helping to provide cover for a prolific presence during his enforced absence, with a match-winning brace recorded in his last outing against Aston Villa.

The 27-year-old is, however, also heading for the treatment room at a crucial stage of the season.

Henderson set for 3 weeks out

Jordan Henderson is expected to miss around 3 weeks of action due to a hamstring injury, Jurgen Klopp says.

Henderson picked up the injury in the closing stages of Liverpool's 1-0 Champions League defeat at Atletico Madrid on Tuesday night, but Klopp said the injury is not as bad as initially feared considering the other hamstring injuries which have hit their Premier League rivals.

A 3-week recovery period will rule Henderson out of Liverpool's Premier League games against West Ham, Watford and Bournemouth, as well as the FA Cup fifth round tie with Chelsea and likely the return leg against Atletico Madrid on 11 March.

But he could be in line to return in the Merseyside derby against Everton on 16 March.

Everton end shirt sponsorship deal with SportPesa



Everton have cut short their partnership agreement with online betting firm SportPesa.

The Kenyan gaming brand, which has been on the club's shirts since a 5-year deal was struck in May 2017, has agreed to the termination of its contract at the end of the season.

Everton chief executive Denise Barrett-Baxendale admitted at the club's annual general meeting in January that "in an ideal world" the team would not be sponsored by a gambling company.

The close links between football and the betting industry remain firmly in the spotlight and board officials at the AGM were asked about their close association with SportPesa and how it could comfortably sit alongside the work the club's Everton in the Community scheme did around mental health issues.

Fredericks out for 6 weeks

West Ham have confirmed that Ryan Fredericks will be out for around 6 weeks after undergoing surgery on his shoulder injury.

The full-back damaged ligaments in his right shoulder during his side's 2-0 defeat to Manchester City in the Premier League last week.

The 27-year-old underwent an operation on Wednesday afternoon following a specialist consultation and the club say the surgery has been successful.

Fredericks has made 21 appearances for West Ham this season. His side sit 18th in the Premier League ahead of the visit of Southampton on Saturday.

Calvert-Lewin signs new Everton deal



Everton striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin has signed a new 5-year contract at Goodison Park.

The 22-year-old has scored 15 goals in 31 games this season - his best return since joining the club from Sheffield United in 2016.

Calvert-Lewin has started all 10 Premier League games since Carlo Ancelotti took over as manager in December and the striker is enjoying life under the experienced Italian.

Calvert-Lewin becomes the second Everton player to commit his long-term future to the club this week after Mason Holgate, who also signed a new 5-year deal.

Liverpool's 22-game Anfield run sees more history made

Liverpool have added another entry to the history books in 2019-2020, with a 22nd consecutive Premier League victory on home soil seeing the Reds set a new high in the English top flight.

Jurgen Klopp's side fell behind against the Cherries, with Callum Wilson's early opener suggesting that another tough afternoon could be on the cards for the Reds.

Having suffered 3 defeats in their last 4 outings across all competitions, a side that has sent records tumbling over the course of a memorable campaign have found themselves facing a few questions.

A positive answer was offered in a home date with Bournemouth.

Mohamed Salah restored parity for Liverpool on Saturday inside 25 minutes, with the Egyptian forward marking his 100th English top flight outing for the club in style.

Mohamed Salah has topped the efforts of Fernando Torres and Luis Suarez by reaching the 20-goal mark for Liverpool in a third successive season.

The Egyptian forward was back on target in a Premier League meeting with Bournemouth on Saturday.

That outing was his 100th in the English top flight for the Reds.

He has hit the back of the net on 70 occasions across those outings and reached 91 for Liverpool in total.

A stunning debut campaign at Anfield for the 27-year-old saw him register 44 goals across all competitions.

A further 27 efforts were added to that tally last season, as Salah secured back-to-back Golden Boots in the Premier League.

The mythical mark for any frontman worth their salt has been reached once again, with 20 goals hit in 2019-2020.

Michael Owen was the last man to achieve that feat through 3 consecutive seasons for the Reds.

Not even Torres and Suarez, who enjoyed prolific spells on Merseyside, can claim to have matched Salah's return.

World Cup winner Torres hit 33, 17 and 22 goals respectively across the 3 full seasons he spent at Liverpool.

Suarez, who is now on the books at FC Barcelona, managed 17, 30 and 31 for the Reds.

Salah now stands above both on a notable role of honour.

The Reds' star man can also claim to have bettered Spanish hitman Torres when it comes to end product through a century of Premier League appearances.

Bergwijn suffers "significant" ankle injury

Steven Bergwijn is facing a spell on the sidelines after sustaining a "significant" ankle injury during Tottenham Hotspur's 1-1 draw against Burnley.

The 22-year-old suffered a knock in the closing stages of the draw at Turf Moor and, along with team-mate Ben Davies, did train on Monday ahead of Tuesday's Champions League last 16 second leg against RasenBallsport Leipzig.

Bergwijn, who joined Tottenham from PSV Eindhoven in the January transfer window, has made 7 appearances and scored twice since his arrival.

Meanwhile, Harry Kane appears to be set for a return to Mourinho's squad ahead of schedule following his lengthy lay-off due to a hamstring problem.

The forward participated in passing drills and rehabilitation activities at Tottenham's training ground on Monday as the England international nears his comeback.

Torreira to miss 8 to 10 weeks

Arsenal midfielder Lucas Torreira is set to miss 8 to 10 weeks of action after suffering a fracture in his right ankle last week.

The Uruguay international was taken off on a stretcher early on during the 2-0 FA Cup win at Portsmouth last week and was later seen leaving Fratton Park on crutches.

A fracture was confirmed by Arsenal late last week but no return date was set until the 24-year-old had seen a specialist - with further information released on Monday now ruling him out for between 8 to 10 weeks.

Allen to miss Wales' EURO 2020 campaign

Joe Allen is set to miss Wales' EURO 2020 campaign this summer after suffering a ruptured Achilles tendon in Stoke's win over Hull City on Saturday.

The 29-year-old was forced off at half-time in the 5-1 home win after landing awkwardly having tripped over Hull substitute Dan Batty.

Allen is now set for surgery which means he will miss the rest of the season, as well as the tournament.

It is a bitter blow, not only for the club as they battle to retain their Championship status, but also for Wales as they once again look to make an impact in a major tournament after reaching the semi-finals 4 years ago.

Dubravka out for up to 8 weeks

Newcastle goalkeeper Martin Dubravka is out for between 6 to 8 weeks with a knee injury.

Dubravka underwent scans on Monday after picking up the injury in Saturday's 1-0 win at Southampton.

Newcastle released a statement on Wednesday saying Dubravka would be out for "at least the rest of this month".

But it is understood the Slovakia international will likely miss the majority of Newcastle's remaining games this season.

Dubravka, who has not missed a Premier League match since making his debut in February 2018, will not be available for Newcastle's FA Cup quarter-finals against Manchester City on 21 March.

Newcastle's weekend victory has taken them 8 points clear of safety with 9 games left of the Premier League season.
