The omission of APOEL's Dionisis Chiotis is the biggest surprise in Greece's 25-man provisional squad for EURO 2012.
The experienced goalkeeper made the cut in manager Fernando Santos' squad of foreign-based internationals last week, but was left out on Thursday in order to include Ari's Michalis Sifakis.
Panathinaikos attacking midfielder Lazaros Christodoulopoulos and PAOK striker Stefanos Athanasiadis were also excluded, even though both appeared to be in Santos' plans, having played in Greece's friendly against Belgium on 29 February.
Instead, Santos turned to Atromitos forward Kostas Mitroglou, who had been frozen out during the qualifiers, but whose stellar season prompted a return.
There was also a place for veteran striker Nikos Liberopoulos.
No Panathinaikos defender made it into the list as both Loukas Vyntra and Nikos Spiropoulos were omitted.
On 29 May Santos will name the final Greece squad from the Austrian town of Kitzbuhel, where the EURO 2004 champions will have their pre-tournament base camp and play friendly games against Slovenia and Armenia.
