Dunga and Blatter blow their own trumpets
The vuvuzela is an integral part of a fan's armoury in Africa, the noisy plastic trumpet as essential an item as getting decked out in the national colours or painting one's face.
But the din created by the instruments which can reach a deafening crescendo especially when South Africa have the ball has prompted complaints from some players and television stations.
The latter say the vuvuzela makes commentary tricky while the former, well at least one based in Europe, Xabi Alonso, complain it makes communication amongst players difficult.
Maicon, the Brazilian defender who was named man of the match after his contribution including the third goal in Brazil's 3-0 win over the United States, said he wasn't worried by them.
"I don't listen to noise from fans, it doesn't concern me", he told the post-match press conference at Pretoria's Loftus Versfeld stadium.
"It might have an impact on other people but certainly I have no complaints."
His Brazil boss Dunga remarked: "It's not my job to decide - we can't rule on that in one day, we'd have to look at all the pros and cons, whether it's better or worse not to have trumpets - I'm sure they'll make the right decision."
FIFA president Sepp Blatter raised the matter ahead of Thursday's Group B game, saying: "It's a local sound and I don't know how it is possible to stop it."
"I always said that when we go to South Africa, it is Africa. It's not western Europe."
"It's noisy, it's energy, rhythm, music, dance, drums. This is Africa. We have to adapt a little."
Alonso knows what he would do with them if he was making the decision.
"I think they should be banned", said the Spain midfielder.
"We're used to when people shout but not to this trumpet noise which doesn't allow you to concentrate and is unbearable."
But one person at the Confed Cup is a fan - 16-year-old South African Zoe Goetaan who bought a red one to support Spain.
"I like to make noise and to make a good atmosphere", she said.

Injury forces Zidan out of USA clash
Borussia Dortmund striker Mohamed Zidan will not play any part in Sunday's Group B match against the United States, after picking up a hamstring injury, team officials have announced.
Zidan, who scored twice when Egypt fell 4-3 to Brazil in their opening group match, was replaced by Ahmed Eid in the second-half of Egypt's stunning 1-0 Confederations Cup victory over Italy as a result of this injury.
"Zidan will not be able to play against USA", Egypt assistant coach Shawki Gharib said on Egyptian television.
"The hamstring injury he sustained against Italy is not serious, but it will prevent him from taking part in Sunday's match."
However, full-backs Ahmed Fathi and Sayed Moawad, who put in superb performances against Italy, were also injured against the world champions but Gharib said they should be ready to face US.
"Fathi trained with us today, he has no problems", Hassan Shehata's assistant said.
"The medical team told us Moawad was 95% certain to recover in time for the match."

Boateng eyes Ghana switch
Germany U21 midfielder Kevin Prince Boateng wants to take advantage of a new FIFA ruling and switch allegiance to play for Ghana.
"Now I want to develop further myself with Ghana", Boateng told German magazine Bild.
"This is the next step."
The 22-year-old Boateng, who has a Ghanaian father, has been capped at several junior levels by the Germans but never made the senior national team squad.
His career has stalled since his move from Hertha Berlin to Tottenham Hotspur in 2007 and he played the end of last season on loan at Borussia Dortmund.
Germany international Jermaine Jones said earlier this month he wanted to take advantage of new rules to play for United States.
The new FIFA ruling abolished the age limit for players with dual nationality, in certain circumstances, to change national teams.

Alves delighted with stunning goal against South Africa
Brazil edged South Africa 1-0 in the semi-finals of the FIFA Confederations Cup to book a ticket to the showpiece final on Sunday to take on United States.
Barcelona's marauding wing-back, Dani Alves was the hero of the night for the Copa America champions when he came on as a substitute in the 82nd minute before ripping in the winner from a freekick 2 minutes from time. And he was thrilled to have played his part in helping his side win.
"I'm impressed with the goal that I scored today", he said during the post-match interviews.
"I'm happy to get a chance to play and help the team. When you are on the bench, you always have an enormous desire to enter the game and today was one of those days", he added.
In regards to his freekick goal, Alves recounted: "I struck the ball really well but my team-mates also did their bit because they formed a really good distraction next to the wall and that disrupted the goalkeeper's vision."
The 26-year-old, however, was slightly disappointed that he won't be able to go up against some of his club-mates and rivals from Spain after they were eliminated by the USA in the other semi-final. But he admitted that the upset result has taught his Brazilian side a lesson.
"In a tournament like this, every team will have their chances", he said. "Spain's game last night served as a lesson for us before we took on South Africa and it will also serve as a lesson for us ahead of Sunday's final."

Kaka voted star of Confederations Cup
Spanish giants Real Madrid's recent signing Brazil midfielder Kaka was awarded the Golden Ball on Sunday after being voted best footballer at the Confederations Cup.
Striker Luis Fabiano, a teammate in the side that came from 2 goals behind to defeat the USA 3-2 in the final, finished second and American midfielder Clint Dempsey third.
Fabiano collected the Golden Boot for being leading scorer with 5 goals and USA goalkeeper Tim Howard received the Golden Glove as the best in his position at the dress rehearsal for the 2010 World Cup in South Africa.
Kaka paid tribute to his teammates for taking Brazil to the title and allowing him to win the player of the tournament.
"I'm very happy to be player of the final and championship", said the former AC Milan man whose transfer to Madrid becomes official on Tuesday.
"Most important, as I've said before, I can only be player of the tournament because Brazil are the champions and if they weren't then I wouldn't get this award, so I would like to thank my teammates."
Hart appeal rejected, misses final
UEFA have rejected England U21 goalkeeper Joe Hart's appeal to have his yellow card from the European Championship semi-final overturned.
Hart, who was booked at the end of the semi-final against Sweden for ungentlemanly conduct during the penalty shoot-out, will miss Monday's final in Malmo when Stuart Pearce's youngsters face Germany.
Pearce will choose between Scott Loach and Joe Lewis to deputise for Hart, who recently joined Birmingham on loan from Manchester City.
Loach started against Germany in the group stage when Pearce rested his first-choice players.

Capello snubs Owen for Holland friendly
England coach Fabio Capello has denied Michael Owen an international recall after leaving the Manchester United striker out of his squad for Wednesday's friendly against Holland.
Owen has not played for his country since the friendly defeat in France nearly 18 months ago, but his close-season move to United was expected to increase his chances of featuring in Capello's team.
But Capello watched Owen miss 4 good chances during United's friendly win over Valencia at Old Trafford on Wednesday and opted to snub the former Liverpool star, who is England's 4th highest all-time goalscorer, for the trip to Amsterdam.
Owen's United team-mate Wayne Rooney is joined by Emile Heskey, Jermain Defoe and Carlton Cole to form a 4-man English strikeforce.
That means there is also no place for Peter Crouch, even though the Tottenham new boy was part of the England side that overwhelmed Andorra on their last outing at Wembley.
The other surprise absentee is David James.
The Portsmouth star has been regarded as Capello's first-choice goalkeeper and was expected to return after missing the World Cup wins against Kazakhstan and Andorra after undergoing shoulder surgery.
Although James was part of the Portsmouth side that faced Glasgow Rangers in a friendly on Saturday, he is missing from Capello's squad as the Italian looks at Ben Foster, Robert Green and Paul Robinson.
David Beckham will make the flight back from Los Angeles in order to take part, while Aston Villa winger James Milner gets a place in the squad.
England squad for friendly international against Holland in Amsterdam on 12 August:
Goalkeepers: Ben Foster (Man United), Robert Green (West Ham), Paul Robinson (Blackburn)
Defenders: Wayne Bridge (Man City), Ashley Cole (Chelsea), Rio Ferdinand (Man United), Glen Johnson (Liverpool), Joleon Lescott (Everton), John Terry (Chelsea), Matthew Upson (West Ham)
Midfielders: Gareth Barry (Man City), David Beckham (Los Angeles Galaxy), Michael Carrick (Man United), Steven Gerrard (Liverpool), Frank Lampard (Chelsea), James Milner (Aston Villa), Theo Walcott (Arsenal), Shaun Wright-Phillips (Man City), Ashley Young (Aston Villa)
Strikers: Carlton Cole (West Ham), Emile Heskey (Aston Villa), Wayne Rooney (Man United), Jermain Defoe (Tottenham)

Foster ruled out of England squad
Goalkeeper Ben Foster has withdrawn from the England squad ahead of the friendly international against Holland, due to a minor injury.
The Manchester United player took a slight knock during the Community Shield match against Chelsea at Wembley.
Joe Hart, currently on a season-long loan from Manchester City to Birmingham, has been called up as a replacement for Foster.
Foster, 26-year-old, has made just 2 appearances for England, both in friendlies, making his debut in February 2007 in a home defeat against Spain. He returned in the 4-0 home win over Slovakia in March.
His withdrawal leaves Hart, Paul Robinson and Robert Green as England's goalkeepers.

Messi to miss Russia game
Diego Maradona will not include Lionel Messi in his team for Argentina's friendly against Russia after the Barca forward pulling a leg muscle in training.
"We're not going to risk Messi for a single minute", angry coach Maradona said ahead of Wednesday's friendly in Moscow, adding: "I'm a wizard... I knew this match shouldn't have been organised."
Maradona said last week he was worried injuries could deprive him of key players for Argentina's World Cup qualifier at home to Brazil on 5 September.
Internazionale's Diego Milito is the likely replacement in the team for Messi, who flew to Moscow from Barcelona's pre-season tour of England and North America accompanied by the Spanish club's physio.
