Another Twist As Mum Now Says Ronaldo Will Stay
Cristiano Ronaldo's summer move to Real Madrid is very much in doubt after his mother hinted that he will not leave Old Trafford.
The Portuguese ace has been heavily tipped for a move to the Spanish champions, with Ramon Calderon seeming capable of just everything to lure him into his ranks.
The former Sporting player said today that he would like to play for Real Madrid as long as the Merengues were willing to offer him and Manchester United what has been reported for the past weeks.
However, Ronaldo's mother - who famously backed a move to Madrid in the past - seems to have put an end to this endless saga by affirming that his son will not leave the British outfit.
"He is fine where he is. Only God knows the future, but it's certain that he will continue in Manchester", Dolores Aveiro told TV station TVI.
With Manchester United uninterested in selling their star, who is currently in Switzerland with the Portuguese national squad, chances are that Cristiano Ronaldo will wear the Red Devils' shirt at least one more year.

Louis plans to remain a Red
Despite speculation linking Louis Saha with an Old Trafford exit, his advisors claim the Frenchman remains focussed on United's 2008-2009 campaign.
The most recent press reports claim the 29-year-old could be used as a bargaining tool in an effort to bring Dimitar Berbatov, Karim Benzema or Roque Santa Cruz to United.
It's news to Saha's advisors, however, who told the Manchester Evening News their man will be reporting for pre-season training at Carrington, alongside his fellow United stars.
"There is nothing on the agenda until the club says otherwise", one of Saha’s advisors said.
"At the end of the season, the club told Louis to report back for pre-season training and he is now on holiday."
Saha is not involved in France's Euro 2008 campaign.
Evra signs new United deal
Patrice Evra has signed a new four-year deal at Manchester United.
The left-back, currently part of the France squad at Euro 2008, has been a big success for manager Alex Ferguson since joining from Monaco for £5.5 million in January 2006.
Since then the 27-year-old has become part of a settled defence that has gone on to win back-to-back Premier League titles and the Champions League with the Old Trafford club.
Although he was left out of France's opening Euro 2008 group match against Romania, Evra has emerged as one of the top full-backs in world football, and is now tied down until 2012.
After an impressive first season at Real Madrid, former Ajax star Wesley Sneijder wasted little time impressing at Euro 2008, running the show against Italy in the Netherlands' opening 3-0 win.

Strengths: Out and out goalscorer, good pace, makes intelligent runs and is deadly when one-on-one with the 'keeper.
Weaknesses: Possibly a little selfish in front of goal. Then again, show me a top striker who isn't!
Suitability: The link-up play with Rooney and/or Tevez would be excellent. Rooney's unselfishness in front of goal would certainly be welcomed by Villa. That said, Villa's flicked pass in the build-up to Spain's fourth goal proves he can also play provider. The Spaniard's knack for well-timed runs would also gel with Scholes and Carrick's ability to cut defences open with through balls.

The 21-year-old Sporting Lisbon captain isn’t the biggest name in Luis Felipe Scolari’s Portugal side, but he began Euro 2008 in fine style.
As Reds fan Jill Graham points out, he was in the thick of the action during Portugal’s opener against Turkey, came close to opening the scoring in the first half (the highlight of which was his inch-perfect, diagonal pass to Cristiano Ronaldo), and was on spot to help wrap up the points.

Key moment: Aware of Raul Mereiles steaming up outside him, Moutinho collected the ball from Cristiano Ronaldo near the penalty spot, spun off his defender and laid it on a plate for his Portuguese team-mate to finish.
Strengths: Even in a Portugal side rich in attacking flair, Moutinho stands out, with a lockerful of tricks and the ability to put a pass on a sixpence.
Weaknesses: He's not the biggest – only around 5ft 7in – so might struggle to impose himself against robust Premier League midfields.
Suitability: Given the pace in the United line-up, Moutinho’s perceptive passing could take the Reds’ counter-attacking to new levels.

Polish-born German striker Lukas Podolski caught the eye with his double for tournament favourites Germany in their 2-0 win over Group B opponents Poland.

United's Premier League and Champions League Double seemingly won't stop Sir Alex Ferguson further strengthening his squad this summer - with a striker apparently top of the list.
The UK press are tipping the Reds to move for Lyon's Karim Benzema, Ajax front man Klaas Jan Huntelaar and Blackburn striker Roque Santa Cruz. Prices range from £15million up to £30m.
Sir Alex is also said to be closely monitoring the contract situation of Manchester City's up-and-coming 18-year-old striker Daniel Sturridge.

Petrucci signing angers AS Roma
Manchester United last night came under fire after signing one of Italy's most promising young strikers. Just days after they were pipped by Arsenal to the signature of 17-year-old Cardiff midfielder Aaron Ramsey, United snapped up Davide Petrucci, 16-year-old, who scored 14 goals in 19 matches last season and was the top scorer in Roma's youth team. He has also starred for Italy's under-17 team. United will pay Petrucci £95.000 a year and will cover the cost of regular flights home to Italy. The deal is the maximum permissible offer for a youth-team player. AS Roma will receive around £200.000 in compensation but the move has caused fury. Petrucci, who comes from the San Basilio suburb of Rome, has been compared to a young Francesco Totti and could have made the first-team squad next year.

Park ruled out of Olympics
Manchester United midfielder Ji-Sung Park will not take part in the Beijing Olympics for South Korea due to injury.
The 27-year-old returned from knee ligament damage to make 18 appearances for United in the closing stages of the last campaign and helped them secure a Premier League and Champions League double.
But after missing a World Cup qualifying win over Turkmenistan last weekend with a knee problem, South Korea coach Park Sung has decided against gambling with the player's fitness for the games with the Premier League season just around the corner.
Park was expected to be named as one of three players aged over 23 for the competition in August.

Queiroz happy at United
Carlos Queiroz has played down speculation that he will leave Old Trafford to take up the vacant Portugal coaching post.
The Reds’ number two was rumoured to be in line to succeed Luiz Felipe Scolari, but he has confirmed he expects to be on United’s trip to South Africa in July.
"I've been in the game too long to plan with any certainty beyond today," Queiroz said in the Daily Express.
"But in all likelihood I will be in South Africa next month with United for the pre-season tour."
Queiroz has been tipped as a possible successor to Sir Alex Ferguson, but the Portuguese believes it is too early to think about who will be the Reds’ next manager.
He added: "I take nothing for granted. Sir Alex will be around for the next two or three seasons and a lot can happen in football in that time."
Queiroz has also expressed his frustration as Cristiano Ronaldo continues to be linked with a summer move Real Madrid.
The winger’s United contract runs until 2012 but Queiroz admits that is no guarantee of him staying with the champions.
"Contracts are becoming meaningless in football, for players and managers," he said.
"It is a now often a case of dog eat dog."

Neville eyes battle with Brown
Gary Neville is braced for the most important pre-season of his United career.
The defender not only has to prove his fitness after missing almost the entire 2007/08 campaign, he also to oust the man who replaced him as the Reds' regular right-back.
"I've got a number of challenges ahead of me and the ultimate one is to try and get back into that team ahead of Wes (Brown)," said Gary, in an exclusive interview with MUTV.
"That's going to be hard for me given the way Wes performed last season. I would say he was in our top two or three most consistent players. He was fantastic throughout the season and deserved all the success he got.
"I can talk about my injuries and being out for 12 months, but Wes has had two cruciate ligament injuries and been out for 12 months twice. I know now where he was during those years and I appreciate how difficult it is. And even though Wes is younger than me, he is a great example to me of how you come back into the team after an injury."
Neville's bid to get back into the team starts on Wednesday when the Reds reconvene at Carrington, initially without the men who represented their countries at Euro 2008.
"Pre-season is hugely important for every player but this time it's massive for me as I try to break into a team that's won the Double," said Gary. "And it's an even greater challenge than normal for the team as we try to repeat the success of last season.

The Portugal winger is determined to engineer a move to Real Madrid, but Ferguson is vehemently opposed to selling and will spend this week examining ways to strengthen his squad. Manchester United have reportedly scratched Karim Benzema’s name off their shortlist altogether after receiving a very lofty quote from Olympique Lyonnais…
Benzema has long been touted as France’s next big thing, and is expected to vie with Marseille’s Samir Nasri for the title of les Bleus’ marquee superstar.
The latter is on the verge of joining Arsenal and Benzema has also been strongly linked with a move to the Premier League, as Sir Alex Ferguson is reported to be a huge admirer.
The 20-year-old was never going to come cheap, however, as Lyon president Jean-Michel Aulas has stated that for “€40m or €50m we would sell Benzema's ear”.
Reports indicate that United launched a bid three weeks ago but it is believed Lyon demanded no less than ₤48million (€60million) for the Algerian-descended youngster.
Hence, Sir Alex has turned his attention elsewhere, with ₤35million for Tottenham’s Dimitar Berbatov suddenly appearing a steal by comparison.
Blanc confirms Silvestre stance
Bordeaux boss Laurent Blanc has confirmed that Mikael Silvestre is staying with Manchester United.
The Girondins coach wanted to bring his former United team-mate to the club this summer in a bid to add experience to his backline.
However, Bordeaux president Jean-Louis Triaud has already admitted that the 30-year-old's salary is an issue and Blanc has also waved the white flag in the chase for the ex-Inter defender.
Silvestre is in the final year of his contract at Old Trafford, but after becoming a bit-part player, partly due to injury, it was suspected that he could have been lured away from the European champions.
