Moyes named Sociedad coach
David Moyes has been appointed head coach at La Liga side Real Sociedad.
The Basque club have been searching for a replacement for Jagoba Arrasate who paid the price for a dismal start to the season when he was dismissed earlier this month.
Sociedad have subsequently turned to Moyes, who has been out of work since April when his ill-fated tenure at Manchester United was brought to an end less than 12 months into a 6-year contract.
The Scot, who has penned a deal at Anoeta until June 2016, was chosen as the successor to legendary manager Alex Ferguson at Old Trafford, but endured a torrid tenure at the club, losing 11 of the 34 Premier League games he took charge of and failing in the Champions League, the FA Cup and League Cup.
Previously, Moyes enjoyed an 11-year spell in charge of Everton, where he drew plaudits for helping the club achieve consistency in the Premier League.
During his time at Goodison Park he also led Everton to the Champions League preliminary stages in 2005 and the 2009 FA Cup Final.
The 51-year-old will now look to rebuild his reputation as a coach in Spain's top flight, with his first task to help Sociedad - who were also reportedly in talks with former West Bromwich coach Pepe Mel - climb the league table.
Sociedad currently sit 15th, although they did achieve a morale boosting 2-1 victory at home to champions Atletico Madrid on Sunday.
That victory was just their second league win of the campaign, their first being a shock 4-2 triumph over leaders Real Madrid in August.
Modric ruled out for 3 months
Real Madrid could be without Luka Modric for as much as 3 months after tests revealed his thigh injury will require surgery to repair.
The midfielder suffered the injury 28 minutes into Croatia's EURO 2016 qualifier with Italy at San Siro on Sunday, a game that ended 1-1 in Group H.
Real had been awaiting test results to reveal the issue's severity, and their worst fears have been confirmed by the Croatian Football Federation (HNS), with Modric's participation likely curtailed until next year.
Atletico hit by Miranda injury blow
Atletico Madrid have confirmed defender Miranda has suffered a grade two injury to his hamstring.
The Brazil international went off injured after just 28 minutes of Tuesday's 2-1 friendly win over Austria in Vienna, prompting fears the centre-back was set for a spell on the sidelines.
International coach Dunga looked to play down fears over a lengthy absence but Atletico confirmed the extent of the injury on Wednesday.
The Spanish champions have not yet revealed when they expect the defender to return.
However, Diego Simeone is almost certain to be without Miranda for Saturday's La Liga clash with Malaga and the midweek visit of Olympiacos in the Champions League.
The 30-year-old has has featured 16 times in all competitions for the club this term, scoring 3 times.

Lionel Messi became the leading goalscorer in La Liga history after netting a hat-trick for FC Barcelona against FC Sevilla on Saturday.
The prolific Argentinian took the his tally of Spanish top flight goals to 253 with a treble either side of the break, moving past Telmo Zarra's record of 251 that had stretched back to 1955.
Messi, who made his La Liga debut in 2004, has achieved the feat in 289 appearances - 11 more than the legendary Athletic Bilbao forward Zarra.
Rodriguez suffers calf injury
Real Madrid forward James Rodriguez has suffered a grade one tear of his right calf, the club have confirmed.
The Colombia international sustained the problem during Real's 3-0 defeat of Celta Vigo in La Liga on Saturday.
Rodriguez had to be replaced by Alvaro Arbeloa in the 53rd minute and the extent of the injury was revealed on Monday.
A grade one injury is the least serious of its kind and in the initial statement, Real did not put a timescale on Rodriguez's recovery.
In a press conference ahead of the Champions League clash with Ludogorets on Tuesday, head coach Carlo Ancelotti said he could possibly feature at the upcoming FIFA Club World Cup.
Real are set to take on the winners of Cruz Azul and Western Sydney Wanderers in the semi-final on 16 December, before a potential Final 4 days later.
Dani Alves suffers hamstring injury
Dani Alves has been ruled out of Barca's Copa del Rey clash with Huesca on Tuesday with a hamstring injury.
The Brazil international sustained the injury during Saturday's 0-0 draw at Getafe - a match that represented Dani Alves' 200th La Liga appearance for Barca.
Subsequently the full-back underwent treatment on Sunday and he will definitely miss the Copa second leg clash with Huesca at Camp Nou, a tie Barca lead 4-0.
His availability for next weekend's league encounter with Cordoba is also uncertain.
Dani Alves has made 12 Liga appearances for a Barca side that sit 4 points adrift of leaders Real Madrid in second.
Uche signs Villarreal extension
Nigeria striker Ikechukwu Uche has signed a 2-year contract extension with Villarreal to keep him at the La Liga side until 2017.
Uche's deal at El Madrigal had been due to expire at the end of the current campaign, but the former Getafe and Real Zaragoza forward has now committed his future to the Castellon club.
The 30-year-old has scored 14 league goals for Villarreal in each of the last 2 seasons.
His goalscoring form helped the team to promotion in 2013 and an impressive 7th place finish last term.
Uche has managed 5 goals in all competitions in the current campaign, while Villarreal are unbeaten in 9 matches and sit 6th.

Zubizarreta sacked by Barca
FC Barcelona have announced that director of football Andoni Zubizarreta has been sacked after 4 years in the role.
The former Barca and Spain goalkeeper was appointed in July 2010, but the Catalan giants revealed on Monday that the 53-year-old has been relieved of his duties.
Zubizarreta's position was called into question following a transfer ban imposed on the club by FIFA in August.
The world governing body ruled that Barca would not be able to sign players until January 2016 after the last transfer window closed, having been found guilty of breaching rules on signing international players under the age of 18.
Zubizarreta's exit on Monday came out of the blue, though, and further details of his departure are expected to come to light at press conference which Bartomeu will attend on Wednesday at Camp Nou.
Getafe turn to Sanchez Flores
Quique Sanchez Flores returned for a second spell as Getafe coach on Monday as successor to Cosmin Contra.
The 49-year-old's first senior coaching role came with the Madrid club and he is back at the helm of the La Liga club 10 years after leaving Coliseum Alfonso Perez.
Sanchez Flores has been out of work since being sacked by United Arab Emirates outfit Al Ain in March last year, but resumes his coaching career in his home city.
The former Valencia coach takes over from Contra, who left Getafe to take charge of Chinese club Guangzhou R and F.
Getafe are 14th in La Liga, just 4 points better off than third-bottom Granada, who have a game in hand.

Valencia extend Nuno contract
Valencia have extended the deal of manager Nuno Espirito Santo, keeping the Portuguese under contract until June 2018.
The former Rio Ave boss was appointed as Juan Antonio Pizzi's successor at Mestalla in July, with his initial agreement set to expire at the end of the current campaign.
However, with Valencia performing well in La Liga - sitting fifth after Saturday's 1-1 draw with Celta Vigo - the club have agreed a 3-year extension.
Guardiola happy for "great player"
Bayern Munich coach Pep Guardiola is happy seeing Fernando Torres impress upon his return to Atletico Madrid.
Torres is already amongst the goals for Atleti.

Sergio Ramos rejects Real Madrid's first offer to extend his contract
According to Deportes Cuatro, Real Madrid defender Sergio Ramos has rejected the club's first offer to extend his contract. Ramos had a meeting with President Florentino Pérez and was unhappy with the offer, which was below Ronaldo, Casillas, Bale and Benzema's salaries.
Ramos' contract ends in 2017, and according to this same report, Florentino Pérez will try to get both Ramos and Ancelotti's extension as soon as this campaign ends, as he is not in favor of negotiating during the course of a season.
Barcelona leave Daniel Alves contract decision to Luis Enrique
The defender comes off contract in June and is yet to hear from the club about new terms.
Sport says Barca will make Alves a new contract offer - should Enrique wish to keep him on. However, any deal will require him to accept a major pay-cut.
Complicating matters is Barca's transfer ban for 2015 and the lack of alternatives inside the squad.
For his part, Alves is open to staying, but is seeking one more big pay-day for what is likely to be the last major contract of his career.
Alcacer commits future to Valencia
Highly rated forward Paco Alcacer has signed a new deal at Valencia, committing him to the Mestalla club until 2020.
The Spain international has signed a 5-year extension with his hometown club to end speculation of a move away - with Liverpool and Real Madrid among the clubs reportedly keen on his signature.
Alcacer has made 22 appearances in all competitions this season, netting 8 goals as Valencia have charged up to 4th in La Liga, as well as scoring 3 goals in 5 Spain outings since his debut in September.
Now the 21-year-old hopes to guide Valencia back into the Champions League where they can battle with Europe's elite.
"I am delighted and proud to be continuing at Valencia for 5 more seasons", he told the club's official website.
"I want to thank the club for the confidence in me that they are showing."
Ronaldo hit with 2-match ban
Real Madrid star Cristiano Ronaldo has received a 2-match ban for kicking Cordoba's Edimar in last Saturday's La Liga clash.
FIFA Ballon d'Or winner Ronaldo lashed out at the defender in the closing stages after appearing to become frustrated by the close attention of the Brazilian.
La Liga leaders Real subsequently had to play out the remainder of the game with 10 men, but still managed to clinch a 2-1 win thanks to a late Gareth Bale penalty.
Ronaldo apologised for his indiscretion on Twitter In the aftermath of the game, while Edimar called for the Portugal international to be handed a "normal" suspension.
The 2-match sanction means Ronaldo will miss matches with Real Sociedad and FC Sevilla, but he returns in time for the derby clash with Atletico Madrid at the Vicente Calderon on 7 February.
