Ronaldo & Benzema join Bale in missing Sporting clash
Cristiano Ronaldo and Karim Benzema will join injured Gareth Bale on the sidelines when Real Madrid travel to play Sporting Gijon in La Liga.
Bale is not being risked for Saturday's match due to a calf problem and his fellow first-choice forwards will also miss out after being rested by head coach Zinedine Zidane.
The decision comes with Madrid facing crucial matches against Bayern Munchen and FC Barcelona in the week following the Sporting clash.
Goalkeeper Keylor Navas has also been left out of Madrid's squad for the Sporting game, leaving Zidane with depleted numbers to choose from.
Full-back Dani Carvajal was already ruled out with suspension, while Raphael Varane and Pepe are out through injury.
Castilla player Alvaro Tejero has been called up to make up the numbers in Madrid's 18-man squad and Fabio Coentrao could make only his second league appearance of the season.

Ronaldo out of Real Madrid clash with Deportivo
Cristiano Ronaldo has been left out of the matchday squad for Real Madrid's La Liga clash with Deportivo La Coruna on Wednesday.
The 32-year-old has been excluded from the 19-man squad for the trip to EL Riazor, along with midfielder Toni Kroos.
It is reported that both are being given the chance to rest, with Madrid hosting Valencia on Saturday before the Champions League semi-finals first leg against Atletico Madrid next Tuesday.
Captain Sergio Ramos is absent through suspension following the red card he received in Sunday's 3-2 defeat to FC Barcelona, while Gareth Bale is out with a calf injury.
Raphael Varane is back in the squad, however, having missed Madrid's last 4 league games with an Achilles problem.

Valencia confirm Marcelino as new coach
Valencia have confirmed the appointment of Marcelino Garcia Toral as their new head coach for next season.
Los Che have endured an underwhelming campaign in La Liga, having flirted with relegation under Pako Ayestaran before he was sacked and replaced by Cesare Prandelli, who quit in December after a row with the board over signings.
Voro has steadied the ship since January, leading the team to 13th in the table, but another bottom-half finish represents a poor return amid an estimated outlay of over €30 million on players during the season.
Marcelino led Villarreal to top 6 finishes in each of his seasons in charge at El Madrigal, guiding them to 4th last term before quitting on the eve of this campaign.
A former player at Valencia's local rivals Levante, Marcelino has signed a 2-year deal at Mestalla.

Ex-Argentina defender Demichelis retires
Former Argentina, Bayern Munchen, Malaga and Manchester City centre-back Martin Demichelis has announced his retirement from professional football.
The 36-year-old re-joined Malaga for second spell after being released by Espanyol in January and has made 12 appearances in what will prove to be his final season in La Liga.
Demichelis won 51 caps for Argentina, scoring twice, and announced his decision at a news conference on Monday.
A product of River Plate's youth system and a cultured defender, Demichelis twice won the Argentinian title before moving to Bayern Munchen in 2003.
His time with the Bundesliga giants proved highly decorated as Bayern claimed 4 domestic doubles.
Despite initial injury problems in Germany he shone, first in a defensive midfield and then at the heart of defence, but had fallen down the pecking order by the time his old River coach Manuel Pellegrini brought him to Malaga in January 2011.
Pellegrini came calling once more when Demichelis moved to City from Atletico Madrid in 2013 - he never played a game for the capital club having joined them on a free transfer from Malaga earlier that close season.
Despite initially struggling to acclimatise to the pace of English football in his advancing years, Demichelis played a pivotal role in City's run to claim the Premier League title in the 2013-2014 season.
He also collected the League Cup in 2014 and 2016 during his time in England, before he returned to Malaga via a fruitless stint comprising 2 appearances at Espanyol.
Demichelis could now bring down the curtain on his career when Real Madrid visit La Rosaleda this weekend in pursuit of La Liga title glory.

Ronaldo surpasses Greaves to become the all-time leading scorer
Cristiano Ronaldo has surpassed Jimmy Greaves as the most prolific player to grace Europe's top 5 leagues after scoring his 367th goal in Real Madrid's match at Celta Vigo.
After moving to England from Sporting Lisbon, he starred with Manchester United, scoring 84 times in the Premier League.
At no point has the 32-year-old looked like slowing down at Madrid, with Wednesday's goal taking him to 283 in 264 league matches.
The Ballon d'Or holder has been in phenomenal form of late - the goal at Balaidos his 12th in 8 games, with the second of his two against FC Sevilla taking him level with Greaves.
The former Tottenham Hotspur, Chelsea, AC Milan and West Ham forward was a major star in the 50s and 60s and had held the record since 1971.
Lionel Messi is the closest active player to Ronaldo's record, with the Argentinian sitting on 346 goals.

Ziganda appointed as new Bilbao coach
Athletic Bilbao have announced that Jose Angel Ziganda has been appointed as the club's new head coach.
The 50-year-old has signed a 2-year deal to succeed Ernesto Valverde, whose departure after 4 years in charge was confirmed on Tuesday.
Ziganda will be presented to the media at San Mames on Thursday.
He spent 7 years with the club as a player between 1991 and 1998 before returning as part of the coaching staff in 2011, following spells in charge of Osasuna and Xerez.
Valverde has been heavily linked with the FC Barcelona job, with Luis Enrique to step down after the Copa del Rey Final on Saturday.

Pellegrino leaves Alaves
Mauricio Pellegrino has announced his departure from Deportivo Alaves following the conclusion of their season with a Copa del Rey Final defeat to FC Barcelona.
Alaves came up short in a 3-1 defeat to Barca, despite matching the holders for long periods, and coach Pellegrino is now departing the club after also securing an impressive ninth place finish in La Liga.
The 45-year-old arrived in the Basque Country, where he played for Alaves for a year, at the beginning of the campaign following their promotion to the top flight.
A successful campaign has now seen Pellegrino linked with FC Sevilla and clubs in the Premier League.

Pepe says goodbye to Real Madrid fans
Pepe has written a heartfelt farewell note to Real Madrid after confirming his 10-year Santiago Bernabeu stay will soon come to an end.
The combative central defender revealed on Monday he would not be extending his stay when his contract expires this month, having only been offered a deal for one more year instead of the two he was hoping for.
He has been linked with a move to Paris Saint-Germain, while rumours of a Premier League switch also abound, but on Tuesday the Portugal international was in the mood for nostalgia.
The 34-year-old wrote on Instagram: "On 12 July 2007 I arrived at Real Madrid with the illusion of a boy who arrived where he had dreamed every day of his childhood".
"Today, 10 years later, I have to stop wearing this badge. Every day I wore this shirt, I did it with the illusion of always."
"Today I can only thank all of you who have supported me, that you have written this beautiful story with me. Thanks to each one of you, who accompanied me. Thanks to all the friends and colleagues I know will stay wherever I go."
"I say goodbye also to this city, which has seen the birth and growth of my daughters. I am very happy for what I have achieved and I will carry your affection in the heart."
Pepe won 3 La Liga titles with Madrid and a hat-trick of Champions League winners' medals.
He was often criticised for his perceived ill-discipline on the field, which did little to win favour with neutrals, but he remains a popular figure among Los Blancos fans.
