Deportivo sack Cristobal
Deportivo La Coruna have sacked coach Cristobal Parralo after less than 4 months in charge following Friday's 5-0 hammering by Real Sociedad.
Cristobal was promoted from the club's reserve team in October following the dismissal of Pepe Mel, but he has been unable to preside over an improvement in their fortunes.
Deportivo won just 2 of the 13 La Liga games Cristobal took charge of, but their 3 most recent fixtures had alarm bells ringing.
A 7-1 demolition by Real Madrid was followed by a disappointing 2-2 draw at home to fellow strugglers Levante, who fought back from 2-0 down to rescue a point.
And Friday's 5-0 loss at Real Sociedad - who themselves had lost 4 in a row beforehand - proved the final straw, as former Spain international Cristobal leaves Deportivo third from bottom.

Seedorf on rescue mission as new Deportivo coach
Clarence Seedorf has been appointed as head coach of La Liga strugglers Deportivo La Coruna.
The former Ajax, Real Madrid and Holland midfielder has been installed, along with assistant Valerio Fiori, until the end of the season at EL Riazor.
Seedorf succeeds Cristobal Parralo, who was appointed as interim coach until June when he succeeded Pepe Mel last October.
However, Friday's 5-0 hammering at the hands of Real Sociedad persuaded Deportivo to cut his tenure short after 2 wins in 13 La Liga games, with the side languishing third bottom.
Former AC Milan coach Seedorf had a brief spell in charge of Chinese team Shenzhen in 2016.
Vrsaljko signs new Atletico Madrid contract
Sime Vrsaljko has signed an extension to his Atletico Madrid contract, agreeing a new 4-year deal with the La Liga side.
The Croatia international, who joined the club from Sassuolo in 2016, has committed his future to Atletico to 2022.
Vrsaljko has started 9 La Liga matches this season, with Diego Simeone's men second in the table, 9 points behind leaders FC Barcelona.
Atleti have also confirmed Stefan Savic suffered a grade 1 muscle injury in his left hamstring during a 1-0 league win over Valencia on Sunday.

Wanda Metropolitano to host Copa del Rey Final
Atletico Madrid's Wanda Metropolitano will host the Copa del Rey Final between FC Barcelona and FC Sevilla, it has been announced.
3-time defending champions Barca defeated Valencia 3-0 on aggregate in the last 4, while Sevilla - runners-up 2 seasons ago - overcame Real Madrid's conquerors Leganes 3-1.
The near 68,000-capacity arena, which will hold the 2019 Champions League Final, was opened at the start of the season while its predecessor, the Vicente Calderon, held the past 2 Copa showpieces.
Neither club have particularly fond memories of visiting the stadium - Barca needed a late Luis Suarez goal to rescue a 1-1 draw against Atletico in October, while Sevilla were beaten 2-0 by Diego Simeone's side a month earlier.
The Final will take place on 21 April.

La Liga to take VAR plunge in 2018-2019
La Liga is set to use the much-discussed video assistant referee (VAR) system from next season.
VAR has been rolled out in the Bundesliga and Serie A this term, often sparking controversy, while its roll-out for selected games in England's FA Cup has also been far from seamless.
FIFA remain committed to using the technology at the 2018 World Cup in Russia and Spain's top flight will be the latest major division to get on board.
In a statement, La Liga confirmed it had reached an agreement with the Royal Spanish Football Federation (RFEF) to introduce VAR in 2018-2019.
Recently retired referees Carlos Velasco Carballo and Carlos Clos Gomez will head up training for match officials, which begins immediately, while Mediapro will be responsible for providing the technology at La Liga's expense.

Partey renews with Atletico
Atletico Madrid midfielder Thomas Partey has signed a contract extension until June 2023, the club have confirmed.
Partey joined Atleti's academy in 2011 and has progressed to become a key member of Diego Simeone's first-team squad.
The 24-year-old Ghana international spent seasons on loan at Real Mallorca and Almeria before making his Atleti debut against Espanyol in November 2015.
Partey, who has made 82 appearances and scored 9 goals for the club, also signed fresh terms that ran until 2022 in February of last year.

Ronaldo reaches 300 La Liga goals
Cristiano Ronaldo has reached 300 goals in La Liga, the Real Madrid forward hitting the landmark in fewer games than his great rival, Lionel Messi.
Ronaldo continued his sensational run of goalscoring in 2018 by achieving the milestone against Getafe on Saturday.
Madrid were leading 1-0 thanks to Gareth Bale's opener when, in first half stoppage time, Ronaldo received a pass from Karim Benzema, jinked inside onto his left foot and rifled home into the bottom-left corner.
Ronaldo took 286 appearances to bring up 300 in La Liga, while Messi needed 334 outings to arrive at the same landmark.
The 33-year-old has hit 33 hat-tricks in the league since joining from Manchester United in 2009.
Ronaldo's most prolific campaign was in the 2014-2015 season, the striker netting 48 times in 35 appearances.

Las Palmas relegated from La Liga
Las Palmas' long-looming relegation was confirmed following a crushing 4-0 defeat at home to Deportivo Alaves on Sunday.
Despite losing coach Quique Setien to Real Betis and captain Roque Mesa to Swansea City in pre-season, there was an air of optimism around the club at the start of the campaign when they managed to secure the return of Vitolo, on loan from Atletico Madrid.
But the Spain international was injured for most of his 6 months at the club and had little impact, as Las Palmas struggled.
After slipping into the bottom 3 in October, they were never to get out of the relegation zone again.
Paco Jemez's arrival as coach in December brought some optimism, but the sale of star player Jonathan Viera in February was arguably the death knell.
Jemez even suggested recently that he should have quit as soon as Viera was allowed to depart.
Las Palmas have not won since the playmaker left for Beijing Guoan.

Struggling Sevilla sack Montella
FC Sevilla have sacked Vincenzo Montella and confirmed the appointment of Joaquin Caparros as head coach for the remainder of the season.
Montella's dismissal was announced on Saturday, the Italian paying the price for a 9-match winless run in all competitions since his team's famous Champions League victory over Manchester United on 13 March.
Following their triumph at Old Trafford, Sevilla have exited the Champions League at the hands of Bayern Munchen and slumped to 7th in La Liga, while they were thumped 5-0 by FC Barcelona in last weekend's Copa del Rey Final.
Sevilla cited poor form as the reason for Montella's dismissal and have now tasked Caparros, who formerly managed the club between 2000 and 2005, with gaining qualification for next season's Europa League.
Montella took over at Ramon Sanchez Pizjuan in December following the dismissal of Eduardo Berizzo, having been sacked by AC Milan the previous month.
His tenure started with a convincing 2-legged victory over Cadiz in the Copa del Rey, sandwiched either side a 5-3 derby defeat to Real Betis.
And although Sevilla's form in the cup and Europe was good, Montella failed to find consistency in La Liga, claiming just 5 league victories in total as the Andalusians' top 4 hopes slipped away.
Sevilla's board publicly backed the former Fiorentina coach on Friday, stating they would postpone any decision on the Italian's future until the end of the campaign.
However, the club have seemingly had a change of heart after the 2-1 defeat to Levante, and Caparros - who oversaw Sevilla's rise to La Liga back in 2001 - will take the helm for the remaining 4 league fixtures, including encounters with Real Madrid and arch-rivals Betis.

No Isco & Carvajal in Real Madrid Clasico squad
Real Madrid will be without Isco and Daniel Carvajal for Sunday's EL Clasico clash with FC Barcelona.
Neither player has been named in the 19-man squad for the trip to Camp Nou to take on the newly crowned La Liga champions.
Isco hurt his shoulder in the first leg of the Champions League semi-finals win over Bayern Munchen, while Carvajal suffered a hamstring injury in the same fixture.
It means Nacho Fernandez is likely to fill in at right-back, with one of Gareth Bale or Lucas Vazquez expected to line-up in support of Karim Benzema and Cristiano Ronaldo in attack.
Madrid are looking for a win that would take them to within a point of second place Atletico Madrid, while also ending Barca's hopes of going the entire league season unbeaten.

Celta appoints Mohamed as new coach
Celta Vigo have announced the appointment of former Monterrey manager Antonio Mohamed as the club's new coach, replacing Juan Carlos Unzue in the role.
Unzue, a former assistant at FC Barcelona, spent a single season at Celta with his departure coming after the club finished 13th in La Liga.
Celta moved swiftly to bring in Mohamed as Unzue's replacement, the Argentinian signing a 2-year deal with the club.
The 48-year-old moves to Celta after 3 years in charge of Mexican side Monterrey, which won the Copa MX in the 2017 Apertura under his leadership.
Mohamed stepped down as Monterrey coach in early May, with the club accepting his resignation after being knocked out of the play-offs Saturday in the quarter-finals stage with a 3-2 aggregate defeat to Tijuana.
After coming away with a draw in the first leg against Xolos, Monterrey was unable to press the advantage at home, losing 2-1 in the second leg.
The experienced manager had lifted Liga MX trophies at his previous two stops in Mexico, winning the 2012 Apertura with Tijuana and the 2014 Apertura with Club America.
He also led Monterrey to first place finishes in the regular season in the 2015 Clausura and the 2017 Apertura but fell short in the final in each tournament.

Gaya signs long-term Valencia deal
Valencia defender Jose Luis Gaya has signed a new long-term contract to tie him down to the club until June 2023.
The left-back, whose previous deal at Mestalla ran through until 2020, has penned a new deal which includes an increased release clause of €100 million.
Atletico Madrid and Italian champions Juventus had been linked with the 22-year-old, who has made 117 La Liga appearances for the club.
Gaya starred for Spain's U21 side at last summer's European Championship but has not yet won a cap for the senior team.
-
Sevilla appoint Machin as new coach
FC Sevilla have appointed Pablo Machin as manager after the Spaniard led newly-promoted Girona to a 10th place finish in La Liga.
Girona achieved promotion from the Segunda Division for the first time under Machin's leadership and then ended the campaign in the top half last term.
Machin has signed a 2-year contract at Sevilla, who finished into the Europa League qualification spots after sacking Vincenzo Montella in April.
Joaquin Caparros oversaw the upturn as caretaker but did not want the job full-time and has instead become the club's director of football.

Leganes appoint Mauricio Pellegrino
Leganes have confirmed the appointment of former Southampton manager Mauricio Pellegrino on a one-year deal.
Pellegrino, 46-year-old, was sacked by Southampton in March 2018 after a run of one win in 17 games and replaced by Mark Hughes who led the club to Premier League safety.
The Argentine only won 5 league matches in his 9-month spell in charge of the Saints.
He signed a one-year contract at Leganes, who finished in 17th place in La Liga last season and reached the semi-finals of the Copa del Rey.
Pellegrino has previously managed Deportivo Alaves and Valencia in Spain's top flight.
Leganes' previous manager Asier Garitano left the club to take over at Real Sociedad next season.
-
Ferrer named as Espanyol's new head coach
Espanyol have appointed Joan Francesc Ferrer as their new head coach on a 2-year deal.
Fresh from leading Huesca to promotion to La Liga, Ferrer also has previous coaching experience at both Espanyol and FC Barcelona.
Espanyol sacked former head coach Quique Sanchez Flores in April.
The club was taken over by Chinese investors after coming eighth in the 2016-2017 season and finished 11th in their latest campaign.

Real Madrid announce Lopetegui as new head coach
Spain coach Julen Lopetegui will take over as Real Madrid head coach after the World Cup.
The 51-year-old, who has been in charge of the national team for the past 2 years, has agreed a 3-year contract at Bernabeu.
The move comes as a surprise, with Lopetegui not featuring prominently among the host of managers linked with the role since the departure of Zinedine Zidane days after Madrid's 3-1 victory over Liverpool in the Champions League Final.
The former goalkeeper made a sole league appearance for Madrid as a player and later turned out for rivals FC Barcelona.
Lopetegui previously coached Madrid's feeder club Castilla in 2008-2009 before taking charge of Spain's youth teams.
He enjoyed success with the country's youth sides, winning the U19 European Championship in 2012 before repeating the feat as U21 coach 12 months later.
Lopetegui's forays into club management have been less successful, however. He was sacked from a brief spell in charge of Rayo Vallecano in Spain's second division in 2003 and left FC Porto after failing to win any silverware from 2014-2016.
Last month, he signed a contract extension to remain as Spain coach until 2020 but the call of Madrid has proved too strong to resist.
