Fostul mijlocaş al lui Arsenal este liber de contract, după ce West Ham United i-a reziliat contractul, săptămâna aceasta. Juventus Look For Lucho
FC Porto schemer Lucho González has reportedly emerged as a leading target for Juventus.
News daily Record understands that Juventus are in the market for a creative solution for their midfield, having identified El Comandante as their prime target.
Lucho, 27, has been a vital piece for the Dragons' midfielder since his arrival in 2005, having been named the league's best player last season.
He has been in great form in Porto's pre-season friendlies and scored a goal in yesterday's 2-1 win over Lazio at Estádio do Dragão.
It is believed that a deal for the player, who costed the club around €10 million, could be struck for a fee of €20 million.
Roma yet to sign Beast
Roma have long been linked with the former Arsenal man, and recent rumours suggested a fee had been agreed and the player could tie up a deal on Monday.
However, while Spalletti confirmed that the club is still in discussions to sign the Brazil international, the deal is still some way from completion.
“It’s true,” he said. “The club is trying to land Julio Baptista, but there is still nothing concrete.
“We believe that the potential of Baptista would be useful for us and the club are trying to land him, but we are very calm, expecting that anything could happen.
“We are looking to bring in important players who know how to make a difference.
“Baptista interests us and the sporting director is in discussions about him – we have to see if he will succeed in bringing him to Roma.
“He is a flexible player, who has speed, physical strength and skill and will therefore easily fit into the team.”
Should Roma fail to land their man, however, Spalletti is optimistic about their chances of boosting the squad.
“We are also talking about a number of other players as you have to look at a number of them so you are ready if a deal isn’t closed.”
Prandelli Delighted With Victory
A stunning free kick from Adrian Mutu and a header from Alberto Gilardino ensure the Italian side head to Prague with their heads high in two weeks.
Prandelli is pleased with the result but he knows his side aren’t through to the group stages just yet.
“We had a great first leg, now there’s the second in Prague. I am pleased with the team and the fans tonight,” Prandelli told RAI after the game.

Adriano risks missing start of season
Inter Milano striker Adriano could miss the start of the season after suffering a right calf strain in training, the Serie A champions said on Wednesday.
The 26-year-old Brazilian will be unavailable for Friday's friendly against Benfica in Lisbon, the club said.
But Italian media reported that, while the injury is less serious than first feared, he may also skip the Italian Supercup against Cup-holders AS Roma on August 24 and the opening league match at Sampdoria the following week.
Mutu ordered to pay £13 million compensation to Chelsea
Adrian Mutu has been ordered by FIFA to pay Chelsea £13 million in compensation following his failed drugs test in 2004, the Premier League club announced on Thursday.
Romania striker Mutu, now at Serie A club Fiorentina, was sacked by Chelsea in October 2004 and banned for 7 months after failing a drugs test for cocaine.
The 29-year-old's fine is the biggest ever handed down to a footballer and was calculated by FIFA's dispute resolution chamber according to the value of the remaining period on his Stamford Bridge contract.
Romania's press announced in June that €12 million would be the compensation sum, but the number given officially by the Blues has since been re-evaluated.
Chelsea expressed their delight at the ruling but Mutu is likely to appeal the penalty.
Official: Baptista Joins Roma
Roma have finally pulled it off to convince Real Madrid to part company with the Brazilian. A number of problems threatened to scupper the deal as neither party could agree on money.
However, that has all been resolved and the Giallorossi can now look forward to having a ‘beast’ in their team.
A statement released by the Italian club reads:
“A.S Roma S.p.A and Real Madrid Club De Futbol would like to communicate that an agreement for the permanent transfer of Julio Cesar Baptista has been reached on Thursday evening.
“Roma will pay Real Madrid €9m in three instalments, the first will be paid when the certificate for the transfer is released by the Spanish FA, the second on July 31, 2009 and the third by December 25, 2009.
“Furthermore, Roma will also pay Real Madrid €1m if the club qualifies for Champions League football while the player is here for a maximum of two seasons, therefore it will be €2m.
“The player has also signed a four year contract.”
Baptista’s addition to the side is a victory for the club, given that they came so close to losing him to other teams that were interested.
The club have also confirmed the player will earn €4.5m per season, meaning they have broken the previous salary cap of €2.5m.

Ranieri: In Milan To Win
The two Serie A giants lock horns at the Meazza and the Bianconeri will be hoping to continue their good form against a Rossoneri side who have done nothing but disappoint all summer.
However, the Tinkerman is not being fooled by Milan’s poor form and he has warned his players not to expect an easy game against Carlo Ancelotti’s men.

Roma Head Franco Sensi Is Dead
The Roma president was found dead late Sunday evening in the Italian capital. Franco Sensi became the leader of Roma in 1993, and during his presidency the club won the Scudetto in 2001.
Sensi was a pure Roman, born there on July 19, 1926 and lived in the city his entire life. He acquired most of his wealth as an entrepreneur in the oil, tourism and publishing sectors.
Franco Sensi became President of Roma in May of 1993, and the sole owner of the club in November of that year. During his presidency the club won a Scudetto in 2001 under coach Fabio Capello. The club also won two Italian Super Cups (2001 and 2007), and two Coppa Italia trophies (2007 and 2008) during Sensi's reign.
Since 2004, due to his illness, Franco Sensi rarely took control of the day-to-day operations of the club. Instead his daughter, Rosella Sensi, became the effective president of the Giallorossi and Franco Sensi took the role of Honorary Chairman.
In May 2008 he was presented with an "Ethics in Sport" award, due to his work with the Giallorossi and his outstanding sporting values.
He died in the Gemelli Polyclinic Hospital in Rome. Roma and football fans worldwide will certainly be mourning the loss of one of calcio's most renowned and respected figures.
Chiellini facing month on sidelines
Juventus defender Giorgio Chiellini could be sidelined for over a month after picking up a left knee injury at the weekend.
The 24-year-old Italian international will undergo tests on Monday to determine the seriousness of the injury.
"40 days off may be necessary to recover", estimated Juventus team doctor Riccardo Agricola.
Chiellini was one of the players called up by national coach Marcello Lippi for Wednesday's friendly against Austria in Nice.

Ivanovic Will Join Milan, Not Juve
The Rossoneri are desperate to sign a stopper following the injury to key defender Alessandro Nesta, who is suffering from a chronic back problem.
Chelsea’s forgotten man Branislav Ivanovic had seemed almost certain to join Milan last week until the transfer fell through at the last minute when the Londoners refused to insert an option into the prospected loan deal.
At the weekend it was speculated that Milan had reignited their interest, but they face competition from Juventus, who reportedly are looking for a defender following the injury to the colossal Giorgio Chiellini last night.
“Juventus have asked for the player, but there has been no contact and Branislav has chosen Milan,” the player’s agent Vlado Borozan told Tuttomercatoweb.
“Therefore he will probably be playing for Milan next season. A deal will be done, partly because the player is unhappy.
“The problem at the moment is that Chelsea want four starters in his position and he is the fourth.
“It is difficult to find an arrangement that works for both sides but there is a game to be played and it can be completed.”
Meanwhile, Milan Vice President Adriano Galliani has admitted that the club still want to sign Ivanovic, and says that time will tell whether or not he arrives at San Siro.
"Ivanovic was, or better, is one of our aims," he stated.
"Chelsea firstly told us yes, then no. We are looking for a central defender and should we be able to find a name which suits us, we will sign him.
"It would be useless signing a player who would never play. We have a few ideas, so we will see."

Rocchi out for 6 weeks
Lazio striker Tommaso Rocchi will be out for at least six weeks as result of a leg fracture suffered at the Olympics.
Rocchi suffered the injury a day ahead of Italy's opening match with Honduras, but medical staff claimed that it was only a muscular problem. In fact, the player made an appearance during the second group match, with South Korea, and even managed to score.
Tests in Rome on Monday pointed out that the forward actually broke his right calf-bone, and needs a six weeks recovery time.
In the last 4 seasons, Rocchi only missed eight matches and scored 58 goals.

Tiago rejects Everton switch
Juventus midfielder Tiago has rejected the chance to join Everton on loan, according to reports in Italy.
The Portugal international is said to be a little wary of returning to England after an unimpressive stint at Chelsea with Atletico Madrid believed to be his favoured destination.
Both Everton and Newcastle United have been alerted to his availability and it is understood that a deal was agreed and left up to the player to decide on a switch to Merseyside.
The Corriere dello Sport quotes Tiago as saying: "I will not go to Everton", which would complicate the transfer plans of both clubs as Juve are keen to offload him to help facilitate their own business.
Atletico's bid to sign the player has stalled, so everything appears on hold unless there is a breakthrough in any negotiations.
Toffees boss David Moyes has been looking for a replacement for Lee Carsley all summer, while Newcastle are also in the market for quality reinforcements.

Kaka not willing to join Blues
Chelsea target Kaka has pledged his future to AC Milan despite reports suggesting he has been offered record wages by the Stamford Bridge outfit.
The Brazil international has been linked to the West London outfit for much of the summer, with Roman Abramovich willing to sign the exciting attacker whatever the cost.
Reports suggest Chelsea are ready to launch an £80 million bid, but the Brazilian has committed himself to the Rossoneri.
