Bologna bailed out
Bologna president Sergio Porcedda has found new owners for the Serie A club.
Giovanni Consorte and Massimo Zanetti, the owner of the Segafredo coffee company, have reached an agreement to buy the northern Italian outfit.
Bologna will therefore avoid going into bankruptcy.
A club statement read: "After a long and complex negotiation process to save and revive Bologna 1909, we have reached an agreement".
"The talks were held via Intermedia Finance on behalf of Comitato Bologna 2010 with the owners of Bologna represented by Porcedda and Renzo Menarini."
"In the next few days, we will formalise all the contracts, administrative and financial issues to make the deal official."
"We wish to thank everyone who collaborated and contributed to the success of this operation."
Porcedda only bought Bologna this year but put the club up for sale last month because of its financial difficulties.
Earlier this month, Bologna were docked one point while Porcedda was hit with a 6-month ban because of unpaid taxes.
Despite the off-the-field distractions, Bologna are in 14th place, 5 points clear of the drop zone heading into the Christmas break.
What will Inter do with Benitez ?
World, European and Italian champions Internazionale Milano have been stunned by coach Rafael Benitez's attack on what he saw as their lack of ambition.
The Spaniard, after just 6 months in charge, called at the weekend for the club to make signings in the January transfer window or consider whether they wanted to keep him on.
Here we look at the options Inter Milano president Massimo Moratti has, including the possible successors to Benitez if he is axed.
KEEP BENITEZ
Benitez did what Moratti asked and triumphed in the Club World Cup and although the president has labelled the coach's outburst "inappropriate", the passion he has shown may convince Moratti that Benitez has what it takes for more silverware.
Changing coach so soon after Jose Mourinho left for Real Madrid in May would cause fresh upheaval in the middle of the season just when Benitez was beginning to turn the corner and get injured players back.
SACK BENITEZ
Moratti had hinted he would have considered the coach's position anyway had Inter not won the Club World Cup, given that they lie 7th in Serie A after an uninspiring injury-hit start to the campaign.
The club owner has not appreciated his authority being questioned, with Benitez saying he was promised signings in the close season which did not materialise.
The president has demonstrated a decisive streak many times before, sacking Roberto Mancini for dithering in 2008 despite winning the Scudetto.
LUCIANO SPALLETTI
The former AS Roma coach has just won the Russian Premier League with Zenit Sankt Petersburg and would be a popular choice for fans since he has no links to AC Milan and is a straight talker.
He also did well to make AS Roma a title-chasing side and had several good battles with Inter. A lucrative contact with Zenit would probably not deter him from the challenge of reviving the European champions.
FRANK RIJKAARD
Out of work after leaving Galatasaray in October, former Holland coach Rijkaard fits the bill given his history of winning Primera Division and the Champions League with FC Barcelona.
However, the ex-AC Milan player would have to convince Inter fans of his loyalty and having failed in Turkey he has slipped off the radar slightly.
FABIO CAPELLO
Moratti was half-interested in Capello before plumping for Benitez and only a resignation from the England boss could facilitate the move.
The 64-year-old has consistently said the England job is his last but that has not stopped media speculation that the former AC Milan, Juventus and AS Roma coach may be tempted to complete the quartet and finally manage Inter.

No complacency for high-flying Napoli
vs LECCE
Napoli goalkeeper Morgan de Sanctis has warned his team-mates against complacency after they jumped to second on the Serie A table.
Walter Mazzarri's side moved to within 3 points of league leaders AC Milan with a victory over Lecce on Sunday.
The win signed off on a stellar start to the term for the Naples side, but De Sanctis has warned his team-mates they must return from the mid-season break hungry for success if they are to continue their push for a Champions League berth.
"We should keep the tension high and be able to keep our feet on the ground", the veteran stopper said.
"We're conscious that all these results have been achieved thanks to humility, hard work and organisation. All these prerogatives should characterise Napoli's work until the end of the season."
"The main objective is to improve on last year's campaign in Serie A. On top of that, the team has secured a great result in Europe as well because we are the only Italian team in Europa League."
"All this means that we're doing a great job. Last year we have finished 6th. An improvement could mean finishing fifth but that would only get us the same things as finishing 6th."
"Since we want to be one of the teams competing for next year's Champions League, considering that Inter Milano and AS Roma are quite late and they will surely battle for the ranking, we'll do our best to achieve the highest possible position on 22 May."
Eto'o named African Footballer of the Year
Cameroon striker Samuel Eto'o was named African Footballer of the Year a record 4th time at the annual CAF awards ceremony in Cairo on Monday.
The 29-year-old native of central town Nkon finished ahead of first-time finalist Asamoah Gyan of Ghana and former winner Didier Drogba of Ivory Coast in a poll among national coaches on the continent.
Eto'o, who won the most prestigious African football individual honour 3 years in a row from 2003, was voted the best player at the FIFA Club World Cup won by his Italian team Inter Milano last Saturday.
Inter are now champions of the World, Europe and Italy and the goals of former Real Madrid, Real Mallorca and FC Barcelona star have played a pivotal role in those successes.
However, he had meagre success as captain of the Cameroon "Indomitable Lions" this year with the team making a meek quarter-finals exit from the African Nations Cup in Angola.
The leading all-time scorer in this competition scored once against Zambia and Tunisia, but the Lions suffered a shock group loss to Gabon and defending champions Egypt outclassed them in the first knockout round.
Cameron then fared disastrously at the first World Cup hosted by Africa last June, losing all 3 group matches under the leadership of Eto'o and were the first country eliminated from the competition.
Internal strife bedevilled the squad with some players trying to tell French coach Paul Le Guen who to select and the only consolation for Eto'o was goals against Denmark and Holland.
Milovan Rajevac, the humble Serb coach who made 2010 such a memorable year for Ghana, took the Coach of the Year award. He resigned after the World Cup to join Saudi Arabian club Al-Ittihad.

Jose Mourinho's Real Madrid was emphatically humbled by FC Barcelona recently but it was quite another story earlier in the year as he led Internazionale Milano to a Champions League, Scudetto and Coppa Italia winning Treble, the first in Italian soccer history.
Mourinho's Catenaccio stood obstinately in Pep Guardiola's way in the Champions League semi-finals, laughing in the face of accusations of anti-football and all the way to a comfortable win over Bayern Munchen despite having just a third of the possession in the final.
Domestic honors haven't been hard to come by at Meazza but this was Inter's first European Cup triumph since 1965.

Leonardo - Inter's new coach
Everyone here at Internazionale Milano is pleased to welcome Leonardo to the club. The 41-year-old Brazilian coach will take charge of the European and World Champions as of 29 December, when the Nerazzurri begin training again in Appiano Gentile.
Leonardo signed a contract this evening that will run until 30 June 2012.
The club will make an announcement over the next few days regarding his official presentation.

Quagliarella out for the season
Juventus striker Fabio Quagliarella is set to miss the rest of the season after scans showed he needs surgery on ruptured knee ligaments.
The in-form Italy forward suffered the injury after 3 minutes of Thursday's home defeat by Parma and a new striker in the transfer window is now a necessity for Juve given Vincenzo Iaquinta is also out with a thigh problem.
"The cruciate ligament is ruptured", a spokesman said.
Quagliarella is on loan to Juve from Napoli with a permanent deal planned for the end of the season but his injury now puts his club future in doubt.
Juve had been linked in the media with Fiorentina striker Alberto Gilardino and Catania frontman Maxi Lopez even before Quagliarella's injury but the latest speculation has said the Turin club are close to sign Genoa striker Luca Toni.
Toni, 33-year-old, only joined Genoa at the start of the season after AS Roma opted not to make his loan move from Bayern Munchen permanent.
He has hit the net 3 times for Genoa this term and has not featured for Italy in 2 years.
Juve, who also have the ageing Alessandro Del Piero and inconsistent Amauri for upfront, were hoping to mount an assault on the Serie A title in the second half of the season but lie 8 points behind leaders AC Milan after Thursday's defeat.

Mutu barred from training
Adrian Mutu's spell with Fiorentina appears to be over as his troubled career took another turn for worse on Friday.
The club have barred the Romanian forward from training and he now looks certain to leave Florence.
The decision comes after Mutu walked out of training on Wednesday after a meeting between his agent and the club broke down.
Mutu arrived as normal yesterday but was told to leave.
"Fiorentina has provided for the immediate expulsion of the player Adrian Mutu from training and preparation, following his serious and retaliatory failure to perform his contractual obligations, causing serious competitive and economic harm to the club, and showing disrespect", said a club statement.
Fiorentina could now sue Mutu for breach of contract, which would come as another heavy blow for a player still fighting a decision from the Court of Arbitration for Sport that he owes Chelsea €17 million after the club sacked him for failing a drugs test.
Controversy hit Mutu again last January, when he failed a doping test to earn a 9-month ban.
He has played only 6 games this season, scoring one goal.

Totti hints at AS Roma exit
AS Roma captain Francesco Totti, who has been at his hometown team his whole career, has hinted for the first time that he could leave the club after a row with coach Claudio Ranieri.
The 34-year-old striker, hailed by fans as the club's greatest ever player, was annoyed after coming on as a substitute for just the last 4 minutes of Sunday's defeat at Luigi Ferraris.
Player, coach and club officials held a meeting on Tuesday.
"We are thinking about the present, then we will see", Totti said after the meeting when asked if he might have a future away from Rome.
"I was a bit upset to go on 4 minutes from the end."
The 2006 World Cup winner, not a first team regular this season, had always previously said he would end his career with AS Roma.

Simeone replaces Giampaolo at Catania
Former Argentina international Diego Simeone has been named Catania coach, replacing Marco Giampaolo, the Sicilian club announced.
The 40-year-old left San Lorenzo in his homeland last year after a poor run of results but has been given a chance in Serie A after Giampaolo left by mutual consent.
Simeone is no stranger to Italian football, having played as a defensive midfielder for Pisa, Internazionale Milano and Lazio in a 20-year professional career. He also played for Atletico Madrid and FC Sevilla in Spain, and Velez Sarsfield and Racing Club in Argentina.
He has been working as a coach since quitting the game in 2006, managing Racing, Estudiantes and River Plate, winning Argentine league titles with the latter two.
Simeone becomes the 7th coach in under 5 years at Catania, who were promoted to Serie A in 2006.
Catania lie 15th in Serie A, 3 points above the relegation zone and without a win in a month.

Zarate banned for 3 games
Lazio striker Mauro Zarate has been banned for 3 Serie A games for hurling a ball at an opponent and being involved in a brawl at the end of Sunday's 3-1 loss at Stadio Renato Dall'Ara.
The defeat hit 4th-placed Lazio's hopes of the Scudetto and the loss of Zarate, linked in the media with Juventus, will further complicate their title bid in the coming weeks with defender Andre Dias also banned for their next game.
Serie A's weekly disciplinary statement made sorry reading for champions Internazionale Milano too, with Cristian Chivu, Dejan Stankovic and Ivan Cordoba ruled out of Sunday's game with Palermo after bookings in last weekend's 3-1 loss at Stadio Friuli.

Milito & Mourinho win Italian football Oscars
Internazionale Milano striker Diego Milito was voted Italian players' association Player of the Year for 2009/2010 with his former boss Jose Mourinho winning the best coach award.
Milito, 31-year-old, scored the winning goals in the 3 key matches as Inter claimed last term's unprecedented Italian Treble of Serie A, Champions League and Coppa Italia in his first season at the club. He netted 22 league goals last season.
"It's an immense honour. For me 2010 will always be a truly unforgettable year", late bloomer Milito said at the ceremony dubbed the "Italian football Oscars".
The Argentine beat off competition from Dutch team-mate Wesley Sneijder, who has missed out for a second time after being left off the 3-man shortlist for the FIFA Ballon d'Or.
Mourinho was odds-on to win the best coach award for a second straight year despite quitting Inter for Real Madrid immediately after sealing May's Treble.
The Portuguese, who cheekily revealed he had won during a Real news conference on Sunday, could not attend the glitzy show at a Milano theatre but sent a video message.
"I'm sorry for not being there but cup semi-final with FC Sevilla stopped me from coming", Mourinho said.
"To receive the Oscar is great because for me to have respect is important... also from my opponents. Serie A is tough and I see that now I am away."
The annual January gala, which recognises achievements from the previous season voted on by Serie A players, also saw Julio Cesar again named Goalkeeper of the Year while Inter team-mate Maicon won the award for best goal (vs Juventus).
Palermo's Argentina playmaker Javier Pastore won best young player.

Napoli bag Catania striker Mascara
Napoli boosted their attacking options for the Serie A title run by signing Catania striker Giuseppe Mascara on transfer deadline day.
A club statement said the forward, barely a regular in Sicily this term, had penned a deal until 2013.
Mascara will be a backup for Serie A's leading scorer Edinson Cavani given Cristiano Lucarelli has a long-term injury.
New Napoli defender Victor Ruiz, who signed from Espanyol last week, was also presented to the media on Monday.
Nagatomo relishing Inter move
Japan left-back Yuto Nagatomo is keen to prove his worth after joining Inter Milano on loan from Cesena for the remainder of the season.
The 24-year-old sealed his switch on Monday, with Davide Santon moving on loan in the opposite direction, and is keen to make an impact with the reigning Serie A champions.
He told the Inter website: "I'm very happy to have joined Inter, the World champions. Now I have to prove to everyone that I can play".
"What's happened today came out of the blue, but now that I'm here I have to give it everything I've got."
The move completes a fantastic week for the former FC Tokyo man, who featured at last year's World Cup, after he helped the national side to Asian Cup glory in Sunday's final win over Australia.
He will become the first Japanese player to represent the Nerazzurri and he said: "That fills me with great pride. I really want to succeed wearing the Nerazzurri colours".

Sneijder returns for Bari game
Internazionale Milano's influential playmaker Wesley Sneijder, out since injuring his thigh in the World Club Cup in late December, has returned to the squad for Thursday's Serie A game at bottom side Bari.
Japan left back Yuto Nagatomo, loaned from Cesena on transfer deadline day to boost Inter's title challenge, is also in the squad.
Inter also said in a statement that Nagatomo had been added to their Champions League squad for the knockout stages along with fellow new signings Andrea Ranocchia and Houssine Kharja from Genoa.
However, new striker Giampaolo Pazzini is ineligible for Europe having appeared for Sampdoria in the Champions League qualifiers.
AC Milan have the same problem with January recruits Antonio Cassano, Mark van Bommel and Urby Emanuelson.

Internazionale Milano defender Cristian Chivu has been banned for 4 matches punching Bari's Marco Rossi during Thursday's 3-0 league win, Serie A said.
The Romanian has apologised, telling reporters: "I'm sorry, I feel like an idiot".
Just before the hour mark Chivu punched Rossi in an off-the-ball incident missed by the match officials, leaving the Bari defender with a black eye.
The match was tied at 0-0 at the time, with Inter going on to win through goals by Houssine Kharja, Giampaolo Pazzini and Wesley Sneijder.
His absence means Inter's new Japan left back Yuto Nagatomo is likely to make his debut against AS Roma on Sunday in a match key to both teams' title aspirations.

AS Roma hit by Mexes ban
France defender Philippe Mexes has been banned for 2 Serie A matches for insulting the 4th official during AS Roma's 1-1 draw with Brescia.
Mexes, 28-year-old, will miss the league clashes against Napoli and Internazionale Milano, who are just above fifth-placed Roma in the league.
The Italian Football League said that, during Wednesday's match, Mexes "made an insulting comment towards the 4th official", without specifying the words used.

Di Natale reaches century
Udinese striker Antonio Di Natale scored his 100th Serie A goal for the club as they climbed to fifth with a 2-0 home win over struggling Sampdoria on Saturday.
Chile's Alexis Sanchez, in fine form after the north-eastern club managed to fight off the advances of Inter Milano in January, grabbed the opener on 18 minutes before strike partner Di Natale sealed the win 5 minutes before the break.
Sampdoria again looked toothless having let main forwards Antonio Cassano and Giampaolo Pazzini leave last month and they now lie 13th, a long way from a targeted European spot after a third straight defeat.
Leaders AC Milan travel to Marassi on Sunday before champions Inter Milano entertain last term's runners-up AS Roma, who are set to be without flu victim Francesco Totti.

4 Serie A teams make Money League top 20
AC Milan claimed the top Serie A spot with revenues of €235.8 million, passing Inter, even though their city rivals won the Treble last year. Here is a snapshot about what Deloitte said about the 4 Serie A clubs: AC Milan, Inter, Juventus and AS Roma.
AC Milan
The return to UEFA Champions League football in 2009/2010 helped AC Milan climb 3 places to 7th in Money League with record revenues of €235.8 million, up €39.3 million (20%) on 2008/2009. This climb in the rankings included overtaking city rivals Inter, despite the Nerazzurri's on-pitch dominance in 2009/2010.
Inter Milano
Despite growing revenue by €28.3 million (14%) to €224.8 million and winning every competition that they entered in 2009/2010, Internazionale Milano remain in ninth place in Money League. Whilst the increase in revenue saw Inter surpass their compatriots Juventus and close the gap on Liverpool in eighth position to less than €1 million, the Nerrazzurri will be most disappointed in being overtaken by their city rivals AC Milan.
Juventus
Reporting flat revenues in 2009/2010, Juventus drop 2 places to 10th position in Money League. Despite a second consecutive season in UEFA Champions League, after a 2 year absence, the club lost its place as the highest revenue generating Italian club falling behind both Milano based clubs.
AS Roma
AS Roma experience the largest fall in position in this year's Money League, dropping 6 places, with nonqualification for the UEFA Champions League for the first time in 4 years resulting in a revenue drop of €23.7 million (16%) to €122.7 million.
The 2 Spanish giants, Real Madrid and FC Barcelona continue to dominate the Money League. Real Madrid generated €438.6 million in the year ending last June, an increase of 20% as the club retained the top spot for the 6th straight year.
FC Barcelona, which beat Real for the Spanish title last year and won the 2009 FIFA Club World Cup, saw a more modest revenue increase of just under 10% to €398 million.

Lavezzi & Rosi banned for spitting
Napoli's Ezequiel Lavezzi and AS Roma's Aleandro Rosi were both handed 3-match bans for spitting at each other during their Serie A meeting on Sunday.
Napoli won the game 2-0, thanks to 2 goals from in-form Uruguayan striker Edinson Cavani, but the off-the-ball clash between Lavezzi and Rossi in the first half was a major talking point.
Both players were booked for the incident, and after reviewing television footage of the scuffle, the Italian FA said further action was warranted.
"The television images show the AS Roma player nearing the Napoli striker and in the following action directed a spit which was immediately exchanged", a statement read.
"The spit must be considered an action of violent conduct from the organs of sports justice."
"The punishment for Rosi and Lavezzi is a 3-game ban."
