Keane keen on El-Hadji Diouf



The Bolton Wanderers forward could be on his way to Sunderland for a mere ₤2.5 million.

The 27-year-old forward has only one year of his contract left at the Reebok Stadium but has expressed a desire to leave the club.

Rumours have it that he is due to have a medical at the Stadium of Light later today.

Sunderland's manager Roy Keane has been busy during the off season in an effort to strengthen his squad.

He has been shopping mainly at Tottenham Hotspur where he has already secured the services of Teemu Tainio and Pascal Chimbonda and is keen on two more Spurs players, namely Steed Malbranque and Younes Kabul.

Everton edge closer to huge transfer

Joao Moutinho has confirmed he intends to leave Sporting to join Everton in what would be one of the sensational transfers of the summer.

Moutinho is one of the most highly rated youngsters in world football and he showed glimpses of his class for Portugal during Euro 2008.

Having won the Portuguese Cup last season, Moutinho now wants a new challenge, and the player confirmed after Saturday's friendly with Blackburn that Everton had made an offer.

Sporting have rejected that offer, believed to be around £18 million, and now the talented midfielder hopes a solution can be found.

Sunderland To Swoop For Downing?

The England international is rumoured to have become increasingly unsettled at Teeside, and the Black Cats are said to be keen to take advantage.

Although Keane would not comment on the rumours directly, he did suggest that his club are not nearly done in their summer recruitment drive.

"I know the five or six players we're looking to bring in the next week or two would excite me in terms of bringing us to the next level," said the Irishman.

"They will all be genuine Premier League class.

"The higher the quality of the player, the higher the wage packet, so it's a test for the club on that side of it because we have to be able to pay the sort of wages needed to get top Premier League stars."

Wenger to bid £5 million for Inler

According to reports in Italy and England, Arsenal manager Arsene Wenger is set to activate Gokhan Inler's £5 million release clause in a bid to sign the Udinese star.

Following the departure of Gilberto Silva, Hleb and Flamini, Arsenal's priority in the summer transfer market has been to sign a top quality centre midfielder.

So far Arsene Wenger has been unsuccessful but, according to sources in Italy and England, 'The Professor' is set to go all out to sign highly-rated Udinese schemer Inler.

The 24-year-old has seen his stock rise over the past 12 months after a superb debut season in Serie A with Udinese.

Quaresma To Inter By Friday - Branca

Branca is confident he can prize the star away from the Dragao and towards Serie A, and the club are preparing one final assault to tempt Porto to part-company with their man.

“Let’s be straight, everyone knows Inter are after Quaresma,” Branca told Coreiro Da Manha.

“He’s still a Porto player but, to be honest, I think he will be with us pretty soon.

9. Deco (Barcelona to Chelsea)

On the wrong side of 30, a first look suggests that he is past it, but nothing could be further from the truth. There is a fire that burns in him as we saw during Euro 2008, and he has a lot more to give to football. He is not what Frank Lampard is, as he will never score as many goals. But then, he is also everything Lampard is not. Superb creativity, a great eye for the game, and an ability to run the show that has seen him win the Champions League with two different clubs. Finally, Chelsea have a player who can orchestrate the pleasing football their owner wants. With Ballack and Essien set to play around him, it will be an ominous midfield.

8. Amantino Mancini (Roma to Inter)
Last Week: 8

Jose Mourinho does not quite promote exciting football, but he does like a fast, aggressive winger forward at least on one flank. That is just what he has found in Mancini, who will be handed the license to thrill just as Arjen Robben was during the glory years at Chelsea. Tends to blow hot and cold, though, as Roma found out last season. Lack of consistency will not go down well with the 'Special One', so he does need to focus a lot more.

7. Amauri (Palermo to Juventus)
Last Week: 7

The Brazilian-Italian striker made it to number three after earning himself a long overdue move to a top four club, but now slips down to seven. He has already shown his potential with Palermo, and the prospect of him getting some top quality service from the Juve midfield is simply mouth-watering. Champions League, here he comes.

6. Daniel Alves (Sevilla to Barcelona)
Last Week: 6

Chelsea, Real Madrid, Liverpool, Manchester United – these are just some of the clubs that have queued up for him over the last 18 months or so. However, it is Barcelona who land him after some difficult negotiations with Sevilla. Perhaps a touch overpriced at 30 million euros (he would have been number one on this list at 20m), but then again, he is the best attacking full-back this world has seen since Roberto Carlos.

5. Samir Nasri (Marseille to Arsenal)
Last Week: 5

The highly rated French international is the latest to join the clan of young Gunners. Many view him as a replacement for Aliaksandr Hleb, while others go a step further and call him the next Zidane. He has had some problems with injuries, but let's hope those were exceptions as opposed to the rule. The prodigous playmaker is at number five.

4. Ronaldinho (Barcelona to Milan)
Last Week: 4

A gamble? Yes. But given the chance, would you sign one of the all time greats of football for a third of his market price last summer? You bet you would. At 28, he is far from over. Some diet planning and some tough training, and he will give at least three or four good years to the Rossoneri. A gamble nonetheless, or he would definitely have been number one. Number four for the Gaucho.

3. Luka Modric (Dinamo Zagreb to Tottenham)
Last Week: 3

The hottest young Croatian was snapped up by Spurs despite the interest of clubs such as Barcelona and Chelsea, and what a signing it has already turned out to be. Looks set to become the jewel in Juande Ramos' midfield next season. He remains at the sharp end of our list.

2. Aliaksandr Hleb (Arsenal to Barcelona)
Last Week: 2

A very shrewd buy, and what could very well turn out to be a stroke of genius from Barcelona. With Lionel Messi expected to run the show, what they needed was not a Ronaldinho, but a tireless, no-nosense attacking midfielder to offer support from the other flank - without hogging possession or the limelight. And they got him on the cheap too. A true critics' player in that while fans rave about others, he runs away with the technical plaudits.

1. Mathieu Flamini (Arsenal to Milan)
Last Week: 1

The underrated Frenchman was one of Arsenal's best players last season, and Milan's signing was nothing less than a coup. That it was a free transfer makes it even better. The smartest transfer this summer despite the number of high profile players on the move.

Keane confident of double capture

Roy Keane remains 'very hopeful' that Steed Malbranque and Younes Kaboul will join Sunderland imminently, with the Black Cats boss claiming that despite reports to the contrary, neither Aston Villa nor Portsmouth have struck a deal for the French defender.

Sunderland have already captured two players from Tottenham after wrapping up deals for Teemu Tainio and Pascal Chimbonda and if they do complete the quadruple deal it is reported that the total outlay will reach £23 million.

Both Malbranque and Kaboul have held talks with Keane but the signing of the second pair has dragged on somewhat, with the former remaining very quiet on the matter and the latter also attracting interest from rival Premier League clubs.

Although Keane has made clear he will not be left waiting any longer by the White Hart Lane pair, he does expect both players to join the North London exodus to the North East.

Barca To Make €22m Trez Offer

Barcelona travel to Italy today ahead of their friendly with Fiorentina, and reports in the peninsula suggest that they will use this visit to present Juventus with a €22m bid for David Trezeguet.

Barcelona today travel to Italy ahead of tomorrow’s friendly match with Fiorentina, which will commemorate the 25th anniversary of the death of the famous Italian football figure Artemio Franchi, for whom the Viola’s stadium is named after.

While in Italy, there are strong reports that Barca officials will present Juve with a €22m offer for Trezeguet. The striker is ready to consider a transfer, which would see him hook up with good friend Thierry Henry, while Juve may consider €22m as a lot of money for a player who will turn 31 in October.

Giggs Rejected Milan Transfer

Manchester United legend Ryan Giggs has revealed that he turned down the chance to join AC Milan a decade ago.

However, Giggs could have won just half of his English-based medals had he accepted the chance to join Italian giants AC Milan a decade ago.

"Ten years ago I declined an offer to join Milan,” the Welsh wizard revealed.

“Perhaps one day I will regret not accepting the offer, but at this moment I can say that I am happy to have remained at Man Utd."

These revelations come after former Manchester United star David Beckham also recently divulged that he too came close to signing for the Rossoneri when he left Real Madrid to join LA Galaxy in 2007.

Stoke to confirm Sorensen signing

Stoke boss Tony Pulis has confirmed The Potters are on the verge of signing former Aston Villa goalkeeper Thomas Sorensen, while negotiations for Sunderland's Marton Fulop continue.

32-year-old Denmark international Sorensen has been on trial at Britannia Stadium following his release from Villa.

Ireland striker Robbie Keane joins Liverpool for $40 milion.

BEIJING, July 30 (Xinhuanet) -- Liverpool FC has announced via its official website that the veteran Ireland forward Robbie Keane signed Tuesday a deal with the Reds.

Keane has completed a 20.3 million pound (40.6 million dollar) four-year transfer from Tottenham to join the club he has supported all his life.

Tottenham Hotspur have officially announced the capture of Blackburn Rovers midfielder David Bentley. The 23-year-old is set to be officially unveiled at tomorrow's press conference. The London side have yet to reveal a fee for the England international...
