Some suprising news is flying round the interweb today.
On March 21st Take-Two filed a paper with the United States Patent and Trademark Office for the trademark "Vice City Stories".
The interesting thing is the 3 things they have trademarked. It includes:
Vice City Stories: Computer game programs, computer game software, computer game cartridges and instruction manuals included therewith.
Vice City Stories: Clothing, namely, shirts, t-shirts, sweatshirts, casual and leisure jackets; headgear, namely hats and caps; footwear.
Vice City Stories: Entertainment services in the nature of the production and distribution of motion picture films; production of prerecorded video cassettes, video discs and laser discs; entertainment services in the nature of a live-action and/or animated television program series and production of live-action, and/or animated motion picture films for television; entertainment services in the nature of computer games provided and played through a global computer network.
The first being the game itself, secondly the clothing, but thirdly, a TV series?
To see the trademarks for yourself, head over to the USPTO.gov website and search for Vice City Stories, you'll see three links there.

We'll have to see what comes of this. This could be a double bluff by Rockstar. They do own numerous other trademarks which have remained unused for years. This could be just an attempt to safeguard themselves. But you never know. We'll just have to wait.

Remember that Rockstar have said the next game will be "all-new". There's nothing new about VCS. It's just building off Liberty City Stories, and using the same name? I personally do not believe this will be the title of the game. Also it's worth pointing out that Take-Two didn't bother trademarking Liberty City Stories, so I must state this is not a solid fact that this is what the next GTA will be called.

Could it be? Grand Theft Auto Vice City Stories ?

According to many sources on the interweb, Take Two has filed three trademarks for the much-speculated sequel for Liberty City Stories, Rockstar's first journey into portable criminality.

The three trademarks registered are for "computer game programs", "clothing" (our guess is Vice City Stories-themed t-shirts and the like, such as the San Andreas bandanas), and "entertainment in the production of motion pictures". The last trademark led many to believe that Vice City Stories was actually a movie based on the Grand Theft Auto franchise, yet the last trademark mentions a global network, which is likely the reason why it was filed.

It seems as though the rumors concerning a sequel to LCS named "Vice City Stories" are true! We'll keep you updated.

Rockstar has announced Vice City Stories, a new instalment in the Grand Theft Auto series exclusive to the PSP, which will be available in the UK on October 20th.

The new game is set in the familiar locale of Vice City, but it won't be a rehash of any previous games in the series - nope, Rockstar is promising "an entirely new game with a new storyline, new missions and gameplay."

It's being developed by the same team that created Liberty City Stories, and is set to feature professional voice talent, a "diverse" soundtrack and all the hallmarks of the GTA franchise we've come to expect. According to Rockstar, this one's going to "thrill long-time fans and excite new PSP system gamers like never before."

Due to be out this October it will be exclusively for the PSP and we will let you know more as soon as we do!

au mai facut faze de genul asta astia de la rockstar, adik sa inregistreze numele si jocul sa nu apara decat dupa cativa ani buni(ex: San Andreas a fost inregistrat ca trademark inainte sa apara Vice City). Sper ca sa-l scoata si pe PC .

The Vice City Stories box art has been revealed today! Though there has been some speculation as to who the characters on the cover may be, no characters have been confirmed yet.

si se pare ca Lance Vance (killed by Tommy Vercetti in GTA:VC) si fratele sau Victor Vance (killed in GTA:VC at the beginning of the game) vor avea un rol important in VCS

GTA: Vice City Stories will be released on October 17, 2006 in the USA and October 20, 2006 for the PSP only. Future releases of GTA:VCS on other platforms such as the PlayStation 2 are possible. Stay tuned.

The new issue of Australian Gamepro magazine includes an exclusive interview with Rockstar, which includes the first details about the next GTA game on PSP. From what the article displays, it seems like GTA fans are in for a great new experience!

� Victor Vance (Lance Vance's brother) is the main (and playable) character. Victor is 28 years old, a marine, and has said to be in 'peak physical condition'.
� Vice City Stories takes place in 1984, and the game is told to be two times as big as in GTA: Vice City.
� New and improved animations, characters will show more 'emotion'.
� A staple of the series, new vehicles, such as jet-skis.
� Unlike in LCS, you can now swim.
� VCS will feature a multiplayer mode very similar (if not identical) to the multiplayer shown in LCS.
� New weather effects (hurricanes!)
� More variation in missions.
� New water effects, including new effects for the new jetskis.
�The radio stations featured in Vice City will return, complete with new songs from the 80's.
� New loading system in VCS (for example, there are now only slight pauses before missions)
� Improved draw distances, said to be better than other titles.
� Increased density of pedestrians, cars, etc.
� Less "clumping" ('clumping" is where groups of pedestrians, using the same model, would appear together)
� A new theme park is introduced in Ocean Beach, complete with a rideable (and in first-person, too!) ferris wheel.
� Trip Skips (first introduced in GTA: Vice City) return in VCS.

However, there are some negatives...

� No character or vehicle customization.
� No climbing (such as in San Andreas).
� No integration between outdoor and indoor areas (a few seconds of load time seems probable).

Vice City Stories is shaping up to be quite an adventure to embark on. More will be posted as it is unveiled, stay tuned!

• There will be 70 storyline missions.
• Vice City is going through a transformation in what is branded as it's urban renewal period.
• Many landmarks will still be construction sites.
• There is no final version of the soundtrack yet. Rockstar have taken account of the fact that the original Vice City Soundtrack was so good - so this time they are trying to better themselves.
• The Trailer Park will play an integral role in the storyline.
• The graphics of plantlife and explosions will look nicer than they did in Vice City.
• There are suggestions (not confirmations) that there could be Monster Truck missions at the Hyman Memorial stadium and a basketball minigame...
• There will be a brand new rocket launcher.
• Rockstar have increased the number of boats in the game, so VCS will have a more diverse selection.
• The handling of jet-skis will be completely different to the handling of boats.
• There are a lot more improvments to graphical aspects of the city...
--- Improved lighting - prettier skylines, more dynamic lighting
--- Improved water - more realistic, looks and feels like real ocean, spray, currents waves all improved
--- Pop-up is still apparent but is described as "minimal"
• Different pedestrians will appear at differnet times, like bums in early morning and party-goers at night. (Known as "Time-contextual NPC Behaviour")
• Phil Cassidy has been spotted on loading screens, indicating a return.
• Binoculars will be a new "weapon" which you can keep in your inventory, meaning you can accuire and use one at any time.
• Seaplane returns as well as Philip Michael Thomas to voice Lance (reported earlier).
• The will be an SMG in the game with silencing abilities.
• A new addition to Vice City in the game will be the trailer park where Victor and Lance grew up.
• There have been quite a few graphical enhancements and Vice City should be bigger and look better.
• There will be lots of new characters and brand new peds, including ones on rollerskates again...!
• The Phoenix and Stinger are vehicles which we will once again see cruising the streets of Vice City.
• New weather effects will also change water conditions in Vice City so riding a jetski in a thunderstorm is probably out of the question.
• Big Mitch Baker and his biker gang will still be there in 1984.
• There is a fairground in Vice City this time, with the big ferris wheel seen in some scans.
• The game takes place in 1984 - two years before GTA: Vice City
• You play as Victor Vance, a 28 year-old US Marine
• Players can now take on the water of Vice City with jet ski's!
• The animations are more life-like and is a ''step-up from previous titles in the series''
• A multiplayer feature similar to the PSP version of LCS is in the game
• VCS is ''much, much bigger than Vice City''
• Some landmarks are half-built or yet to be refurbished to their state circa 1986
• There's new or altered locations and buildings
• All new vehicles and weapons
• You can fly helicopters!
• Radio stations from Vice City make a return
• New weather effects that could include hurricanes
• You can swim in the game!
• Bikes handle better than before
• There's also no more seamless exterior-to-interior gameplay as seen in LCS (There'll be a slight loading time)
• A new addition in Vice City is the chunder-wheel, which you can ride in first-person view!
• Binoculars are in the game
• LCS is ''rookie first-gen PSP title compared to VCS''
• Draw distance is great and is said to be better than Vice City on PS2
• Trip skips make a return (If you die or get busted a taxi will take you back to the location where you received the mission from)
• New animations which give both the lead characters and pedestrians a whole new degree of humanity
• Far richer color palette that brings sunsets to all new levels of beauty, and realism
• Increased density of pedestrians, cars and objects
• Reduction in clumping (where groups of the same model type appear together)
• Far more interiors than its predecessors

Screen Fun, a German magazine, has a preview of Vice City Stories in their latest issue. Details are a little bit scarce at the moment, but I'll summarise what we've heard so far.

* You'll see many different vehicles on the screen at the same time. This was a problem which has been fixed since previous iterations, whereby you'd see many of the same vehicle in certain areas.
* The controls are the same as they were for Liberty City Stories
* Vic will receive text messages on a pager. This is actually how Claude received messages in GTA3.
* The invitingly named Chunder Wheel, (the big ferris wheel) is in the centre of the city.
* You'll need the helicopter in many missions in the later part of the game.

The latest issue of PSM magazine is out in the United States of America, it includes a preview of Vice City Stories and is actually the first US magazine to even get a preview of the game. The following details have emerged.

* The Cure are one of the artists the magazine heard on the radio, expect songs from them in the game.
* You'll be able to see "considerably farther into the distance" than in Liberty City Stories thanks to the improved draw distance.
* The magazine's writer got to play four missions, lasting on average 10-15 minutes. This is a substantial improvement over Liberty City Stories' mere 5 minute average.
* Custom Soundtracks will return - Using the Rockstar Custom Tracks application you can add your own music to the game.

Two magazines in Europe have received a preview of Vice City Stories recently. The first being GamesMaster. No new screens appear in the mag but we can surmise the following information from it:

* The game's radio stations will contain "hundreds of top tunes"
* "A lot of new vehicles, including all sorts of aircraft" are to be included, on the whole, a "mixture of old and new"
* The transition from land to water to air travel will be easy
* The plot will feature both new and old characters, most of which will be new, though

Secondly, Official PlayStation 2 Magazine France have also received a preview. As my ability to read French isn't too strong, I can't clarify that the following information is 100% accurate (online translators aren't good). If you speak French fluently please let me know via PM or E-Mail if you can clarify the info.

* As the storyline revolves around the two Vance brothers, humourous situations are said to be plentiful
* The magazine saw fairly empty streets but Rockstar promised that they will be twice as full with pedestrians and vehicles when the game ships.
* Rockstar supposedly has a big surprise planned for the WiFi Multiplayer mode. There's no hint of what this might be though.

The first of what is sure to be an influx of online previews has appeared on German gaming website 4Players.de. We can surmise the following details from the article:

* Lance Vance is "a drug-dependent wreck"
* Golf caddies appear, from this we can ascertain that Leaf Links is still a golf course.
* In some missions Vic will be helped by Lance and Ricardo Diaz.
* Explosions have been improved with hissing sounds, jets of smoke and parts flying everywhere
* Pop ups and fade ins were still a problem in the preview that 4players.de saw, however, Rockstar assure us that they will be sorted out in the final version
* It is confirmed that Ving Rhames will voice Victor, this was partially confirmed a few days ago by the updated cast listing for VCS @ IMDb
