Actiunea jocului este asemanatoare cu cea din vechiul Prince of Persia: The Sands of Time, care s-a bucurat la acea vreme de un real succes.

In Prince of Persia: The Forgotten Sands, jucatorul va trebui sa se lupte cu un numar mare de inamici, sa se catere pe tot felul de obstacole si sa foloseasca puterea nisipului pentru a duce misiunea la bun sfarsit, elemente pe care le-am intalnit si in seria The Sands of Time.
