Despite good friend Ronaldinho’s arrival, the media in Spain and England insist Milan would be willing to hand Kaka to Chelsea for a record £80m.
Rumours of the reigning European and World Player of the Year’s departure have been circulating for several years, but the Rossoneri and the Brazilian have always shrugged off the speculation from Real Madrid and Chelsea.
According to The Guardian and Spanish newspaper Sport, Milan are negotiating over a new £80m offer to solve their financial problems.
"Real Madrid offered 90m Euros last summer and Milan did not even think about the bid," Kaka's personal assistant Diogo Kotscho was quoted as saying in Globoesporte.
"This time is different. This is the first time we feel that a deal will definitely happen. Because of the (financial) situation Milan are in at the moment, the deal is good for all parties involved.
"The move would represent a significant increase in Kaka's salary, on top of the 10 per cent transfer fee that goes straight to the player anyway - some 15m Euros.
“Chelsea are the club to be at right now. They are building a team to win everything."
Milan general manager Adriano Galliani confirmed the club had been hit hard financially by the failure to qualify for the Champions League and was running at a loss.
He also noted the Rossoneri could wipe out their debts in one fell swoop by selling Kaka.
“We do not have a transfer kitty stashed away here. Despite failing to qualify for the Champions League, the club is strengthening the squad and increasing the wages. This means we’ll be £35m in the red without President Silvio Berlusconi’s help.
“The fans should be happy, as all we’d need to do in order to wipe out or debts is sell Kaka and Andrea Pirlo. Instead they won’t move, so if that’s not a show of love for this side, I don’t know what is.
“I can confirm that Chelsea declared their interest in Kaka. But I told them that Milan were not interested in selling him and I stopped everything before they could make any offer. So, I don’t know whether they would have offered £80m.”
The financial crisis at the club has been somewhat tempered by the ‘Ronaldinho effect.’ Although the player cost £18m, in the space of two days he has already sold an extra 10,000 season tickets.
When he decides which number to pick for the squad, shirt sales will also go through the roof, not to mention new sponsorship and overseas sales revenue.
According to Sport, the reason for Kaka’s potential transfer demand is ‘jealousy’ at the flurry of media activity surrounding new signing Ronaldinho.
However, it was Kaka who proved instrumental in bringing the Barcelona star to San Siro by urging him – both in public and private – to join him at Milan.
It is also unlikely Kaka would be eager for a move to Chelsea considering his good friendship with Andriy Shevchenko, who has made his regret at making that £30m switch abundantly clear.
