Fans moved from outside Rooney's home

Manchester United fans had to be dispersed by police after staging a protest outside the home of striker Wayne Rooney on Thursday night.
Officers were called to the England frontman's mansion in the village of Prestbury, Cheshire, at 8:30 PM after a mob of up to 30 people descended on the property.
The apparent fans' protest comes after Rooney, 24-year-old, dropped the bombshell that he no longer wanted to play for the Red Devils.
And there is rising speculation that the former Everton player may leave to join United's great rivals, Manchester City - a nightmare scenario for fans of the Old Trafford outfit.
The striker's refusal to sign a new contract was revealed by a crestfallen Sir Alex Ferguson earlier this week and has been met with rising anger by supporters of the club.
Rooney's home, Candysfield, which he shares with his wife Coleen and son Kai, is down a normally quiet 3-lined drive and surrounded by a wall and gates for added security.
The house is on a "millionaires' row" with Rooney's neighbours including fellow United players Wes Brown and Michael Carrick.
"Roo issue a matter of trust"

Defender Patrice Evra feels Wayne Rooney should not play for Manchester United if he does not trust the ability of his team-mates.
England striker Rooney has controversially revealed his desire to depart Old Trafford this week, admitting doubts over whether the club can still attract world class players and secure silverware.
Frenchman Evra believes if the 24-year-old has become disillusioned with the team around him he should not be wearing the Red Devils shirt.
"If one player in the team does not trust the others, he should not play in the team", Evra told Sky Sports News.
"Me, I trust everyone. I know we can win."
When asked if he believes Rooney will run out for United again, Evra replied: "I hope so, but I'm not Sir Alex Ferguson. I'm only Patrice Evra".
Evra's colleague Darren Fletcher agrees every member of the team must have complete confidence in their fellow players and manager.
"You've got to believe in your team-mates and the manager and we definitely do", said Fletcher.
"You go on that pitch, look around and you're confident in the team you've got and the players that surround you."
Midfielder Fletcher pointed out that many key players have departed Old Trafford with no effect to the success of the club and insists United will continue to excel whether Rooney leaves or not.
"There have been a few instances of big players leaving Manchester United but Manchester United goes on", he said.
"It's such a big club, it's the biggest club in the world. You have to keep going, you have to respond. The fans don't let you settle for anything other than winning."
Fellow midfielder Michael Carrick reiterated that United have enough world class players to generate results, with or without Rooney.
"We've got a world class squad here and whatever the circumstances we stick together and believe we're good enough to win competitions", said Carrick.

Defour issues come-and-get-me plea to Sir Alex

Manchester United target Steven Defour - the man Sir Alex Ferguson sent a get well telegram last year - admits he is ready to leave Belgium and seal a dream move to Old Trafford.
The Belgium international is a long-term target for Sir Alex Ferguson, who is understood to have been handed a substantial transfer kitty to boost his squad after Wayne Rooney questioned club's ambition last week.
Ferguson sent Defour - who has also been linked with Liverpool - a personal message last year when the talented midfielder suffered a serious foot injury playing for Standard Liege.
Defour had previously remained tight-lipped on United - but the 22-year-old has finally admitted he is aware of interest from Old Trafford.
And Defour says he is ready to leave Standard Liege: "I know that Manchester United are closely monitoring my situation. There hasn't been any official contact yet though".
"I've been sidelined for quite a while due to injury but I'm playing at a high level again. The chance that I'll leave the club is rather big if I continue to play like I currently do."
"I've had the opportunity to leave Standard on more than once occasion in the past couple of seasons, but I loved the club too much to leave. However, I'm 22 years old now and I also have to think about myself."
"There comes a time when you just have to make the next step in your career, regardless of sentiments for any club."

Guardiola may succeed Ferguson

FC Barcelona manager Josep Guardiola has emerged as the favorite to succeed Sir Alex Ferguson when the Scot steps down at Manchester United.
The Spanish media suggested Ferguson recommended Guardiola for the United board because of his style of play.
Guardiola, 39-year-old, still has not extended his contact which is due to expire next summer and he is believed to have a negative relationship with the Catalan club's president Sandro Rossell.
Guardiola's agent Jose Maria Orobigt has confirmed that his client has received an offer from a top European club, which is believed to be United.
Other candidates for the job include former Aston Villa boss Martin O'Neill and Everton manager David Moyes.

"Rooney right to stay"

Cristiano Ronaldo has backed Wayne Rooney's decision to commit his long-term future to Manchester United.
Rooney appeared set to move away from Old Trafford when it emerged last week that he had refused a contract offer from United.
"Rooney knows what's best for his career so we have to respect his decisions", Ronaldo said on Sky Sports News.
"I think the best club for him is Manchester United, of course."
Rooney released a statement expressing concern about the "future squad" and the "continued ability of the club to attract the top players in the world" but went on to sign a 5-year deal after negotiations resumed.
Ronaldo's departure from United to Real Madrid in 2009 brought in an £80 million fee but saw the club lose a key asset and Chelsea went on to win the domestic league and FA Cup double as Sir Alex Ferguson's side had to do with a Carling Cup victory.

Ferguson rules out January signings

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson ruled out any January signings on the day he revealed Wayne Rooney will be out for another 5 weeks.
Ferguson saw his side beat Tottenham in Premier League on Saturday evening to stay in touch Chelsea, although they remain 5 points behind the leaders.
Ferguson, though, insists there is no need to add to his squad in January.
"We won't be buying in January, definitely not", he said in the Independent.
"If you want someone to play in Europe, you are limited right away. There are hundreds of players cup-tied."
"You have 5 months left of the season, I will have Antonio Valencia back hopefully towards the end of February, which is a new player coming back."
"If Michael Owen gets back, it is another new player coming back. So with the squad I've got, I don't see any reason for us to buy anyone."
United will also hope to have Rooney fit and firing by January but Ferguson does not expect him back in action for some time yet.
"I think Wayne Rooney will be out for another 5 weeks", he said in Sunday Express.
"He'll have to pick up his fitness again. I would think 5 weeks should be about right."

Obertan aims to retain his spot

Gabriel Obertan got his United goalscoring tally off the mark with a stunning top-corner strike against Bursaspor and the Frenchman hopes he has done enough to keep his place in the team.
The Reds take on Wolverhampton at Old Trafford on Saturday. With Antonio Valencia sidelined long-term and Nani forced off in Turkey with a slight groin problem, Obertan knows this is his chance to shine, but he's not being completely selfish about it.
"Everyone is very happy", he said after Tuesday night's win.
"It is 3 points nearer qualification. I also scored, so it is really good. I am very proud. It was a quality performance and the most important thing was to win, but it is nice to get the goal to go alongside it."
"It is going to be difficult to keep my place in the team, but I am going to work hard and not have any regret if I don't make the squad at the weekend. But that is what I am working for and I hope the coach picks me."
Obertan is one of a number of players ready to come into the team should injuries, suspension or squad rotation necessitates it.
Nani & Fletcher to miss Wolverhampton clash

Sir Alex Ferguson has ruled Nani and Darren Fletcher out of Saturday's Premier League encounter with Wolves.
The pair both picked up injuries during the win over Bursaspor in Turkey.
And whilst it is hoped the damage is not too serious, it is enough to keep two of Ferguson's most important players out of a key domestic encounter.
"Unfortunately Nani has a groin injury and is out for Saturday", confirmed Ferguson.
"I think Darren will be out as well, so that part has been disappointing."
"It is disappointing but these things happen in football. We may have Darron Gibson back after a bout of flu but Anderson had a virus as well and I don't think he will be ready."

Reds on a high for tricky week

United will use the euphoria of Saturday's last-gasp win over Wolverhampton to fuel next week's trips to Manchester City and Aston Villa, according to John O'Shea.
Ji-sung Park's stoppage-time strike papered over the cracks of a below-par display from a Reds side decimated by injury and illness, providing a timely boost ahead of a tricky week.
"It was a huge goal", O'Shea told MUTV. "The way the game ended was just such a high for us. It was a fantastic goal from Ji. He just sucked the defenders in to make the challenges and carried on going and tucked it away in the corner."
"Hopefully we can look on that goal as a very special moment in the season. The focus beforehand was that we needed 3 points, then we could look forward to the City game. Thankfully we got that, now we recover and focus and hopefully we'll get a few bodies back."
The Reds were deprived of several players by a virus which infiltrated Carrington during the week, while Nemanja Vidic, Patrice Evra and Paul Scholes all played despite suffering the after-effects of the illness.
O'Shea is hopeful that reinforcements will be on hand for Wednesday's trip to Eastlands, but conceded that United, injury-hit or not, were fortunate to beat a spirited Wolves side.
"We knew yesterday we might be a few bodies down and then a few more disappeared", he said. "But we managed to get a team and subs together. When we're 1-0 up we should be able to hold out and finish the game off, even if we're not playing well."
Valencia could make United return 3 months earlier

Manchester United have received a boost with Antonio Valencia likely to return from a horror ankle injury 3 months ahead of schedule.
Valencia, ruled out for the season after being carried off against Glasgow Rangers in September, is going through 2 gruelling rehab sessions a day at United's Carrington training complex rather than taking the opportunity to return home to Ecuador for a family trip.
A source confirmed: "Valencia's attitude has really impressed everyone".
"He could have gone home but he has put his recovery and the club before anything else."
"He is working extremely hard and believes he could be playing again as soon as mid-February."

Concern for full-backs

The cornerstones of United's defence could be altered against Aston Villa on Saturday, following injuries to both full-backs in the Manchester derby.
Rafael limped off early in the second half against City when it became apparent that he couldn't shake off a knock suffered just before the break, in a feisty duel with former Reds striker Carlos Tevez.
Later, Patrice Evra was also withdrawn from the fray, leaving Sir Alex Ferguson to fret on his French left-back's fitness.
"Patrice had an ankle injury which we'll assess tomorrow", Sir Alex told MUTV.
"Rafael has a dead leg, so it's not so bad. He'll miss Saturday of course but he should be ready for the following week."
Cynics and City fans might have sneered at the manager's pre-match talk of injuries and illness when a strong United side was named an hour before kick-off. But the boss insists there were genuine concerns in the ranks at Carrington.
"We've done well to get a good team on the pitch tonight", Sir Alex added.
"The big problem for us was Scholes and Fletcher. Scholes has been on medication for the last 2 days, he hasn't trained. Darren only trained this morning. He had an ankle injury but he showed today he was ok."
Wes Brown and John O'Shea both turned in good performances as second-half substitutes for Rafael and Evra and the academy-produced pair and are on standby to start at Villa Park.

Aston Villa vs Man United preview

FORM GUIDE
Villa's 3-2 win over Blackpool in midweek extended their sequence without defeat to 4 matches, following draws with Fulham and Birmingham City and a victory over Burnley in the Carling Cup - the competition in which the Villans registered their last home win over United more than 11 years ago.
The draw in the Manchester derby ended a run of 6 consecutive victories for the Reds, but the unbeaten run in all competitions has now been stretched to 25 games. However, the Reds have still only won one league away match this term (at Britannia Stadium last month) and Sir Alex will want to address that as his side continue to chase Chelsea.
INS & OUTS
Aston Villa have suffered from an injury crisis of late, particularly in the attacking third after Emile Heskey (knee), John Carew (calf), Steve Sidwell (Achilles) and Stiliyan Petrov (knee) were all ruled out for at least a month apiece. Nathan Delfouneso will hope to retain his starting place after bagging his second career goal against Blackpool despite the return to fitness of Gabriel Agbonlahor (groin).
United are without the suspended Paul Scholes after he received his fifth yellow card of the season in the derby while Rafael has been ruled out with a dead leg. Patrice Evra could also miss the match after limping off at Eastlands with an ankle injury. Ryan Giggs could return after 3 weeks out with a hamstring strain.
STAR MAN
The Aston Villa squad boasts an array of English talent, including Ashley Young, whose raw pace and energy has the capability to put the frighteners on any top-flight defence. Signed for £8 million from Watford in 2007, Young has developed into one of the most exciting players in the Barclays Premier League - he won the PFA Young Player of the Year award 2 seasons ago. This term, the England international has netted 3 goals and created the same number in 11 games.
REFEREE
Mike Dean has been a Premier League referee since 2000 and has since taken charge of the FA Cup final and several international fixtures. He caused controversy last season by failing to spot Didier Drogba in an offside position after the striker scored the decider in Chelsea's win at Old Trafford.
